EPIDIDYMITIS AND BACTERIAL PROSTATITIS

Hi, I m male and 21, I developed pain on top of my left testicle on 30th of August, went to MD very next day and after visual examination he diagnosed epididymo-orchitis. Gave me doxy for 10days. After like 5 days I developed similar pain in the other testicle as well. He referred me to surgeon, who said it wasn't a big deal antibiotic course of 4days will do the job. After completing the course I had no relief, so I decided to see a urologist. Urologist after seeing my recurring epididymal pain (I had the same thing a year back as well), he did EPS culture and sensitivity test, which showed that isolated organism was E.coli and was resistant to most of the antibiotics such as tetracycline, carbapenems, etc etc, I was only sensitive to aminoglycosides, tigecycline, and co trimoxazole and other two. This time I was diagnosed with chronic bacterial prostatitis, when I asked him about epididymitis he said , prostatitis is the main cause which is causing me epididymitis. So he's suggesting some kind of endoscopic surgery of prostate to clear out all bacteria and inject medicine there. I m quite confused how will that happen. It has been more than 90 days and swelling of epididymis can still be felt. I m too much anxious about what will happen in future. Should I go for what doc is suggesting (endoscopic surgery) or I should give antibiotics a try. Right now I m on co trimoxazole for 15days. Pls help

I have been dealing with some of the same issues for 2 years. My urologists suggest having the affected testicle removed or live with the pain. I am having a hard time deciding what to do. Hope you can find a better solution for your problem.
I would get 2 or 3 opinions before letting someone remove your testicle if it's not cancer.

You can easily live with one testicle - loads of testicular cancers survivors do, and some men are born with just one - and your life shouldn't be that much different, but that's a big surgery, and should be a last resort.

If you have chronic prostatitis, one thing that seems to help a lot of men is eliminating caffeine entirely. If you haven't already, get an ultrasound, cystoscopy, and urine tests to look for white blood cells and bacteria. (You probably have since you mention "urologists", but I'm continually amazed at doctors who don't do the basics, so I'm mentioning them.)
