Jolting, stabbing severe pain at back of right leg

Iam 35 yrs old male and for the first time ever I been getting this very painful feeling in y right leg like a screwdriver being twisted in it with a electric shocking feeling at the same time as well that last between 3 to 6 seconds at a time at the back of my right leg between the calve and thigh in what I call the armpit of the leg...all I know is its very painful and  when it suddebly coes when I when it immediately drops me to the ground but when it stops after that few seconds of crazy pain the area is not tender and is like nothing is worng. besides now that im sitting here typing this I even feel a slight throbbing sharp pain in the same area. Any help would be great . - James

The area you describe here is called the popliteal fossa. Any history of knee  or back injury?

I'm reaching here but it might be a possible pinched nerve. Does this happen when you're laying down?
