A child coming off zoloft

My son has been on zoloft for two years. he hated it and wanted to come off. So I took him from 100mg to 50 mg for a while. Then I started doing every other day for a few weeks and then about every 5days and then off. he is really struggling right now with his anger. emotions, etc. Is it worth putting him back on a small dose? Did I go to fast?

I have to agree with the others, stopping a medication without the guidance of a doc is NEVER a good idea, but when dealing with children, a doctor's involvement is imperative.

PLEASE be sure to follow up immediately with your child's doctor, there are some very specific concerns with children and these types of medications that cannot be taken lightly.

Also, be sure your child is under the care of a child/adolescent psychiatrist, do NOT allow a psychiatrist who doesn't specialize in treating children handle your child's medication.

Good luck...let us know how your son is doing!

BAD Idea taking him off the medication. This can cause him to go into a Manic stage and cause harm to him or others. You should NOT mess with the medications that are prescribed unless the Dr. gives you authorization.

You really need to talk to your child's doctor, messing with medication without a doctor can be dangerous, Best thing to do is call the doctor ASAP. They will know what the best thing will be to do.
