How do you know if you need progesterone?

Good morning ladies!

Well unfortunately I did not get my BFP this month, my AF showed up on 5 July - so I'm back on the rollercoaster =P. My question today is regarding progesterone cream, I’ve heard that taking this could increase your chances of becoming pregnant. My thing is how do you know if your body needs it? How do I know if I even have a low level of progesterone? I miscarried during my first pregnancy on March 26th, 2010 and got my first period 5 May. I have had regular periods since May and am currently on CD 8. To assist me in conceiving, I have been using OPK’s sicne May, but have yet to fall pregnant. After how many months of TTC should I seek my OB's help? The first time I conceived, we weren’t even trying and it came as a surprise to us both. My husband and I moved in together in Aug 2009 and had been BD for 6 months before we fell pregnant. We weren’t using any type of preventive measures, we just let nature take its course, but since the miscarriage we’ve been actively TTC.  Ohhh, I am so confused as to what I am doing wrong…Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help and BBD to all those trying TTC – good luck ladies!

Hi there, the best way to tell if you have low progesterone is to have a blood test on CD21 - that will tell you a. if you have ovulated and b. what your level is and if it's high enough to sustain a pregnancy.  If you do become pregnant it's best to get your progesterone tested again as with people like me it can drop off even if it was high on CD21.  If it is low or drops off you can use the natural cream or the suppositories.

Hi i am in the same boat as you. I miscarried at 6 weeks on march the 19th. It was our  honeymoon baby and after that i was determined to get pregnant again i didnt use opk during my first cycle but did the next two and haven't gotten a BFP yet. Im wondering if i dont have enough progesterone in my system as-well becuase i havent gotten tender breast once after ovulation since my miscarriage and that was something ive had my whole life. Ive been getting positive opks these past two cycles around day 17-18 and my periods arent exactly back to my normal 28 day cycle. Also im taking my bbt and its not really that high after ovulation so i think i dont have enough progesterone in my system. All i can say is that i hope our cycles go back to normal soon. Good luck!

It depends on your dr and your medical history. I was only prescribed progesterone suppositories because at 12 wks I began to hemmorage and continued to bleed and clott well into my 18th wk which I ended up on bedrest. I have suffered 6 m/cs 2 2nd term and my dr didn't prescribe progesterone actually he did nothing to intervene. Have you spoken w your dr what does he or she say? Your still a few mos into your recovery so don't beat yourself up. It's your bodies way of telling you it's still trying to recover. What methods have you been using? I didn't use opk I was afraid i would forget to use them but friends I have rave about them, you can also track your temp etc. It can be so confusing just remember that your cycle may not be exactly what it was before you had a m/c. I know with me I began ovulating late and was bding a week too early. Der! If I had used a opk I would have realized that lol. It can be quite confusing believe me! Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!
