hi there!
I too am 43, I have two teenagers (am remarried and he has no biological children)
I had a miscarriage in April and another in July. I had the D/C on July 23rd and to make a long story short, we had some unprotected sex and I'm pregnant again before getting my next period. this was not our plan, in fact I was unsure if I would even try again...so...:)  I am now taking fish oil and prenatal (how much fish oil did you take)? Is there anything else you think I should try? I would appreciate any advice you can give me....

thank you so much!

I am a 26-year-old woman who had two miscarriages -- on in August 2010 (at 5 weeks) and one in January 2011 (at 10 weeks, though the baby stopped developing at 5 weeks; I waited to miscarry naturally, but ended up having a D&C). My doctor said that having a miscarriage is normal and having two miscarriages is "just bad luck." I had three healthy pregnancies before these two miscarriages, which makes me curious what exactly went wrong. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

The only thing that was ever found after both my m/cs was low progesterone.  Even with my next two pregnancies it was still low and I had to do supplements.  I carried both to term and have 2 healthly sons.  With this pregnancy(35 weeks with a little girl) my progesterone level was awesome but I was on a medicated cycle because we had trouble TTC this one because of my age and other medical reasons.  I also began taking the progesterone supplement way earlier this time as well, 4 days after ovulation.   Good luck to you.

Thank you for your kind words.  I am so sorry all three of us had to go through this.  It makes me feel better knowing there are women like me wondering what's going on and why it's happeneing.  And it gives me hope knowing that women have gone on to have a healthy pregnancy after multiple miscarriages.  Thanks again and good luck to you too!!

Thank you so much for your response.  I was on progesterone pills with the second miscarriage and I have been taking prenatal vitamins for about a year now.  Both were around 6 weeks...so I wasn't far along, but it's hard.  Thanks for all the advice.  I guess I am just trying to understand why this happened.  I cut down on my soda intake the minute I found out I was pregnant the first time and I really only allow myself one can a day.  I never drink coffee.  I don't smoke or really ever drink.  I honestly feel like I am doing everything right...or atleast I am trying to.  In 2 weeks my doctor is going to test me for blood clotting problems.  I will be sure to ask about the fish oil and aspirin when I see him.  Thank you again for your advice and encouragement!!  I definitely still have hope!!

Hi! im sorry about your loss.. I was just like you looking for answers a month ago.. i am 26yo and asked the same questions... I lost my little man last month at 14wks, everything was normal bloodworks, u/s everything. so i thought nothing was wrong. then all of a sudden i lost my baby.. i dont know until now what caused my miscarriage, my DR told me that the baby had died couple days before it actually came out. it was the most devastating.. traumatic.. event of my life. I definitely feel your pain, and i know no words can make us feel better with this loss.

Now for medical reasons that your seeking, obviously its just your DR that can tell you what happened, but sometimes like my case theres just no definite explanation, i know it sounds ridiculous not to have a reason why things happened. Always remember (as i always remind myself all the time) that things do happen for a reason. Just have faith and I'm sure we will be blessed with a healthy baby someday.

Well i wish you good luck! =)

Hi there, I am so very sorry for your losses.  If the miscarriages were first trimester, the vast majority of the time they are caused by chromosonal abnormalities.  It can also be due to enviromental issues such as smoking, drinking or drug use, but most women don't partake in those activites and I am sure you didn't either.  Other reasons can be issues such as blood clotting disorders.  After two losses, you are not considered at a higher risk for another.  In fact, only about 5% of couple will experience 3 consecutive losses. At this point there is every reason to believe another pregnancy would be successful.  If you do suffer a third, most Dr.'s will then order testing.  Sometimes it turns up something, sometimes not.  I had 5 in a row.  It was devastating.  I had all sorts of testing with no real reason ever found, except that I am much older then you.  However, my 6th pregnancy was successful and I had a healthy baby boy last January.  So don't give up hope.

Some of the things you can try are giving up caffeine.  Speak to your Dr. about taking a progesterone supplement.  Some Dr's believe it works, others don't, but it can't do any harm.  Also, try taking fish oil.  There has been some research showing that it can help in preventing miscarriage.  I am also on a daily low dose asprin to help prevent blood clotting issues.  Again, talk to your Dr. prior to putting yourself on them.

If it is due to chromosonal abnormalities, it is just bad luck.  This is much more common then most realize...in fact the majority of women will suffer at least one miscarriage in their child bearing years.  It's so hard emotionally, but again, usually has no bearing on your ability to carry full term the next pregnancy.

If your losses were second trimester, that is very different, and typically a Dr. will get involved after just one, so I am assuming that was not the case?

Start with your family Dr. and a full physical.  You general health is important, so not a bad idea to make sure all is well.  Then, ask your Dr. or OB about some of the things I mentioned above.ie" baby asprin & progesterone.  Put yourself on the fish oil, and a good prenatal vitamin, even before you are pregnant.  If you are a smoker, quit before you try to concieve.  Limit your caffeine to one or two caffenated drinks per day (small quantatites are fine).

I am so sorry you went through this.  But don't give up hope.  This happens to so may women, and they do have successful pregnancies afterward.  Good luck.
