pain and muscle spasms in legs

I have been having weakness and pain in my legs for a while now. Today all day long I have felt this feeling as if I have been running a marathon. Both legs but more in the right one. It feels like spasms but at different spots all over my legs, the pain is there to. I have felt this before but not as intense. Some times I feel it in my arms but not as bad. Does anyone else get this?

No, I have never had a neck injury or any neck probs at all. To be honest I have noticed that there are other parts of my body that feel tingly and or numb. Today, I had a tremor in my right arm which I have never had before. It seemed to get worse when I bent my arm toward my body to touch my neck and chest and also when I raised my arm to answer my cell phone. As far as the MRI strength, I have no idea.
Thanks for your imput!! Oh, and after the info. I received from you guys, I will not stop searching until I have an answer. Thanks again!!

Shelly,

Your doctor should not just dismiss your symptoms as psychological.  Numbness should and can be checked into and tested for.... you should be referred to a neurologist.

Have you had neck injury / problems?  Am asking becuase numbness just in hand / face could be possibly from neck.

What was the strength of the MRI you had?

I agree with Pat and the others.  Trust yourself and your body.  It is easy to doubt yourself when you are told what you are experiencing is psychological.  However at the same time and while chasing these things stay as busy and active as you reasonably can.

Best wishes

Sally

I'm sure you've seen the threads here on the forum that state that you can have a clear MRI and normal blood work and have MS.   A decent doc worth his weight would know that.   Unfortunately, even some neuros would state that a patient doesn't have MS with a clear MRI and LP, when in fact the patient does.

I've seen quite a few docs searching for my own answers.  I'm in my 40s also and I've had a few docs (not my neuro) say that I'm on the "older side" of MS and that since my LP was normal, then that rules out MS.   I sure wish that were true, but it isn't.

I'm still un-dx'd, but have an abnormal brain MRI.  All other testing looking for MS indicators/mimics has been normal.  My rheumy basically said my testing was "squeeky clean".     My neuro is still following me, looking for those definitive signs and tests.

You know your body best.  If you feel something is wrong, don't settle for your doc's explanation and keep pursing an answer.  Your doc may be right, but what if he isn't.  You'd want to get an answer and start getting your health taken care of.  Don't worry about the "what if's?".   Keep searching for your answers!

Take care,  Pat :)

Thanks for the info. and your enthusiasum!! I have been thinking about a new doc. I had to make an appiontment with my doctor just to tell him that I felt my symptoms were worth looking into. I then repeated my symptoms and he then said that the MRI was needed to check for MS. The thing is, with a normal MRI and now normal blood work I feel so afaid that what if he is right? I will definately look for a new doctor and ask for the tests that you suggested. I will check with my insurance to see about a neuro. After all if he is wrong about the psychological thing, time will only be wasted right?
Thanks again!!

I believe that you had an MRI, but did you have an MRI of the spine?  Perhaps also an EMG/NCV test as well.

Hopefully, your doctor will go ahead and refer you to the neurologist.  Please push for the referral if your doc decides to recind on it.  Don't settle for your his explanation that it's all psychological!!  Could you  seek another PCP or go on your own to a neuro?

Your current doc is not even willing to treat your symptoms right now!!  Sounds like a candidate for the weenie roast!!  Phooey!!!

Take care and I hope you can get some further testing quickly.  ((hugs))

Hi, thanks for responding! I am not taking any meds at all for the pain or spasms. My doctor feels that all my symptoms are psychological so I guess I will have to just deal. My doctor did mention that he was going to refer me to a nuerologist but that was before my blood work came back ok. What are the other test that I should ask for just to make sure that a trip to the psychologist is really what I need?

Hi, I actually have had low potassium a few times and each time that it has been low, once when I had been in the hospital for pneumonia and also when I had a lung infection of some sort, all of which has happened in about the last year and a half. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a doctor that has told me why my potassium is low. I am usually given a supplement and sent on my way. I have been told by my doctor that I have COPD. I am 41 and even though I do not smoke any more I did for about 10 years total. As far as my testing, I just got a call from my doctor about my blood work and he said that my symptoms are psychological. I am afraid that if these symptoms do not go away soon that I am going to crack. The tingling and muscle spasms are not the worst of it. I have permenant numbness in my right hand. When I touch it, it feels as if it is not mine. Even worse is the fact that my lip on the right side of my face has been feeling numb too.

I am with Spastic on this one.  I do hope that you have some type of medication to help you with these spasms, until you get to the root of the problem that is causing them.

Pain can really wear you down...for sure.

Hi!!!  Have you had your vitamin d and potassium checked?  Sometimes being deficient in any of those can cause weakness, spasms, etc.  I have low vitamin d and have had the spasms and muscle pain for months now.  Please talk to a Dr about this.
