Just want to share my good news!

I finally found a good doctor!!!  Yay!!

She is an Internist and I had my first appointment with her today.  She was great!  She went over all of the tests that I have had so far and asked a lot of questions.  She asked me "what did I want from my visit today" and I said...I just want direction.   What do I do next.  I have seen 2 neurologists who were not really all that helpful.

She told me that based on the symptoms that I experience, I should definitely be monitored by a Neurologist who specializes in MS.  She was not implying that she thinks that I have MS, but that because my symptoms are suggestive - and tests are normal - I should still be seeing an MS specialist every 4 to 6 months to monitor my progress.

She also prescribed Neurontin for my numbness/tingling/burning sensations that I have.  She is the first doctor to address ANY of my physical symptoms...

She did not agree with the Neuro at The Mayo Clinic who thought that my symptoms could be caused by my Vitamin D deficiency....

She gave me the name of 2 MS Neurologists that she knows and likes, and told me to research them and let her know which one I would like to be referred to.

I finally feel like someone is hearing me.  It is a very good feeling.   At least now I have a direction to go in...She wants to see me in 4 weeks to see how things are going...again, the first time I have had a doctor who wants a follow up...

Feeling hopeful,
Chrisy

Yay for good doctors! I finally found a PCP (a family-practice doctor) who takes me seriously, too, after 8 years of PCPs who were oblivious to me and considered me merely anxious. This guy would refer me to a neurologist or back to ENT, but I don't think it would do any good at this point--I'm just happy to have a doctor I feel has listened to me.

Hi Chrisy,
We will put your neuro on the plus side of the columns.  They are out there - it just takes patience to find them.

Thanks for sharing the good news.

I feel very hopeful!  I should clarify that I don't have to wait for my next appointment for the referral to the MS neuro - I can call her as soon as I have decided and she will take care of the referral.  She just wants to see me in 4 weeks to see how things are going, have I seen the Neuro yet, check on how the Neurontin is going etc...

Yay, Chrisy!

This is very hopeful news. I'm so glad you can breathe at least a little easier knowing that there's a caring doctor in your corner. It's not just you against the medical world any longer.

Keep us posted on what neuro you decide to see. And remember, you don't have to wait the 4 weeks to tell your PCP if you decide soon. The referral can be made before then. Since it usually takes a long time to actually get in to see the neuro, starting soon is a good idea.
