Do I have M. S.

49 year old male, I got a flu shot in my left arm on October 26,2011, a few days later I had a reaction that felt like a ballon blowing up in the top of my head followed by a swollen lyph node, stiff neck on the left side severe pain across: my shoulder blade,  left sho ulder, arm, elbow and hand, at one point I could hardly left a coffee cup and small items where hard to handle because of the stiffness and numbness in my left hand. On 11/05/2011, I was seen at the ER and dianosed with a reaction to the flu shot, at that time my: Glucose was 112 and should have been 70-100, white blood count was 11.8 and should have been between 4.8 and 10.8 and my neut# was 8.5 and should have been 1.5-6.6.

Recently I got an MRI done because the swollen lyphnode has decreased but is still there and left shoulder pain and hand stiffness is still there. I inform the radiologist of my ER report. He did a scan of my brain under contrast. The area that I had the describe on the top left side of my brain was seen on the MRI. The radiologist says it is consistant with M.S. Another says that it is not M.S. if the W.B.C.  can be seen on MRI, but they are not present because of the 1 year plus time span.

Hi JC - Generally speaking radiologists don't make diagnoses, nor do they order additional studies. I'm curious that the radiologist put a specific date, 10 years, on the lesions on you brain.

When are you seeing your neurologist?

I agree and will be consulting a nerologist on this month. I don't understand how any doctor can tell how long a problem has been there, without knowing any of my medical history.

There are too many gaps to make much sense of what happened.  Nothing you talked about sounds like MS but you'd need to see a neurologist to be evaluated for it.

He says they were on my brain and had been there for 10 years. The problem with that is the reason he looked at my brain is because of a bright spot on my c-span. Previous mri had no such signs on them/

I'm with Alex. The symptoms you describe don't shout "MS!" To me either. Was the radiologist more specific than "consistent with MS"? Were there lesions?. Where were they?

Raised Glucose and WBC and swollen lymph nodes sound like something other than MS.
