Please be aware that there is no single test for MS. An MS diagnosis usually takes the form of clinical exams, blood tests and perhaps a lumbar puncture to rule out other possibilities (most of which are more likely and more common than MS), an MRI to the proper protocol, and taking your personal medical history into account. Usually, a medical professional suspecting MS is merely the start of a bit of a diagnostic journey. It can go smoothly and quickly, but for many it's a bit of a bumpy ride. But if you get on that ride, we'll all be here!
I second Alex's comments. A GP can not diagnose you with MS. If you're seeing a neurologist you're comfortable with, that's a fantastic first step. And I hope your insurance issues get sorted soon!
I have had vision issues with MS (optic neuritis with full scotoma and internuclear opthalmoplegia), but I can't say my personal experience was similar to yours. But this can be typical with neurological concerns - everyone gets their own custom-fit experience!
I stress to add, I'm not a medical professional, but as you mention issues with vision and water retention, please make sure someone is doing a quick test in case of diabetes.
I am sorry you are having difficulties. Swelling and retaining water is not MS. Why did your Doctor say you have MS? Is that Doctor a Neurologist? Neurologists are the only ones who can diagnose MS. Did the doctor mention Optic Neuritis? My primary care found my MS but she had to send me to a Neurologist who did tests over several years before diagnosing me with MS. I had to have several MRIs even though my first MRI showed MS. Then they did a bunch of blood tests to rule out other illnesses.
