Baclofen allergy

I had just recently started Baclofen nearly 2 weeks ago.  Starting at 5 mg before bed then going to 5 mg in the morning as well.  I have steadily had more severe reactions to it from extreme difficulty breathing (went to PCP who gave me an inhaler, didn't work) to severe muscle ridgity and weakness.  I stopped it for a few days while I double dosed the benedryl in hopes to avoid the ER cost.  I was then just fine breathing etc great again.  So I tried 5mg before bed last night to see one more time now that I was on gaurd with the benedryl and a ride to the ER if needed.  Yep same problem.  I can feel it coming on this morning so immediately took benedryl and called my ride to come hang out with me by this evening I am fine again as I have taken two more doubles of benedryl as precautionary.  I am yet to be dx am waiting on csf test to come back at the moment.  I would like to hear of others and their experiences with Baclofen.  I am back on Klonopin for the time being as I don't see my Neuro until next week thans so much to everyone!!!!!

I was in the hospital when they started me on baclofen.  I woke up the next morning, after only 2 doses, with a rash all over my face, back, chest and arms.  They dx'ed it as an adverse reaction right away and switched my med for ths spasms.

I tried baclofen again about 6 months ago questioning whether it really was a reaction or something else back then, and I got the same rash again.

I'm officially allergic.  Too bad we are because baclofen really does help a lot of people.

Hope you can find another med that works for you.  There are many out there to try.

Like you've already been advised, tell the doc.

I can't beleive that there is another person that is allergic also!  I was starting to wonder if I was some odd ball.  What do you take instead?  I am to see my Neuro tomarrow for further discussion on the issue as for now I do the best I can with the Klonopin until then. I am so new with all of this type of medication that I don't know what there is out there.  Thanks for any input you may have.

I now think that you are officially allergic to Baclofen. Is there any other other type of med that can help you with muscle spasms and pain?

Oh so glad you reminded me.  I did have a rash, That started after a couple of dosed.  I had a splotchy rash not large hive type and felt like a sunburn on my torso  especially around my waist band and bra line.  Where ofcourse I knew thwre was no sunburn.  I am so glad yuo said something I had forgotten that in the breathing mess.  Infact the rash just finally went away 2 days ago even though the breathing was back to normal.  Also I did take an Aveeno Oatmeal bath to help.  Thank you Thank you Thank you I had missed writing that one in my notebook being so distracted from the other.  But I did notice it too at the time .

Hi there,

Sorry you are allergic to it, but sooooo very glad you knew the warning signs!

I didn't have a reaction from it myself, but did from another med, and sure do wish I was smart enought to know what the heck was happening to me earlier than later.

Report it w/your Dr. and get yourself something else!

Belated welcome to you too, btw,
=Shell

I just recently started taking Baclofen this month and have had no reaction to it except I felt a little sleepy the first week. No breathing problems whatsoever. It doesn't sound like you have an allergy to me because you said nothing about a rash or swollen tongue. But, it sure does sound like Baclofen and you don't mix together well. If I were you, I'd try talking to my neuro to see if there's a different type drug for you muscle symptoms.

No it's not, I quit taking it once I was sure it was the Baclofen and am back to normal breathing again.  Thank you so much for your input as a lot of what I read everyone seems to do just fine with it.  Thank you

Yep, sounds like an allergy to me...is it really worth it to load up on Benadryl just to take it?  Contact your PCP or Neuro ASAP, please.
