headache

My sister-in-law presented to the ER about 3wks ago with a severe headache. She was hospitalized for over a wek for testing including labs(normal), CT head(normal), cisterogram(normal), lumbar puncture(normal), EMG(normal), MRI brain(normal) but then finally an MRI of her neck showed an area of demylenization. She has been otherwise healthy except for a diagnosis of celiec disease about 3yrs ago. She takes this very seriosly and follows her diet strictly. She continues with  headches but now has some pain in her L arm, double vision and hearing changes. She ws given narcotics in the hospital which eased pain a little but is now only taking tramadol prn. Her neurologist gave her few details as to what he thinks is causing this and wants to send to her to the Mayo clinic. Any thoughts on what this problem is or what to do next??

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear of your SIL's medical problems. Some of her symptoms do sound neurological but no one here is able to diagnose your SIL.

Now as far as educated guesses go...the neurologist may be thinking MS or some other neuro-muscular disease.  It is possible to have all the tests you mentioned be normal and still be MS .  If it's MS the neuro is thinking of , the Mayo as gotten mixed reviews here on the forum.

You can get additional information by looking at the  Health Pages at the top right of the page next to the yellow icon. You can also use the "search this community' option and type in things specific to your situation, i.e. Mayo clinic, cervical demyleination, etc.

Wishing your SIL good health and feel free to ask any other things you have questions about. The Forum is great with helping out with finding the answers and knowing what to ask of the doctors.

Not being a Doctor I can't begin to diagnose your sister. Sounds like they are covering all the bases with the tests and sending her to the Mayo Clinic. Hopefully she will get some answers soon.

Good luck and keep us posted with any results.
