Just a Paycheck

Any of you ever get the feeling that you (and your illness) is just a paycheck for someone?  Sometimes I get so mad....

I have never felt like that myself, but I live in Uk and our medical system is very different.I would hope that the standard of professional care was always patient led wherever our drs are so am sorry that you feel diminished..that is not how it should be. I think it is really important to have an honest trusting relationship with your care team so if you do not feel respected or that your health is their first priority then it be worth considering finding a new neuro.

Ok, for me, I have to say, NOT ALL my drs. make me feel like I am just a paycheck to them. I do have some very caring and concerned drs. Lately I have been feeling brushed off by the neuros. I did not originally set out to even see one, any problem I was having, I would discuss with my endo. due to my graves disease.

Since going to see a neurologist within the past 3 1/2 yrs, and 4 of them in total so far, have all made me not want to ever see a neuro. again. To me, they have been heartless, and push anything off as anxiety, or fibro., I have gone into see a neuro. with an open mind, ready to hear whatever they say to me. I would answer their questions and would not overspeak them.

I have become quite bitter about neurologists, possibly because I haven't found one willing to help me. Like I said before, I didn't seek these issues out, and for some reason, alot of neuros. have their mind made up before getting to know you, and pass out the prescription.

I think when I said I agree 100 % about the paycheck, is because  I spend maybe 5 to 10 minutes with them and I walk away with nothing while they make the big bucks telling me the same thing everytime.

I certainly agree with Lulu's assessment (wonder if that will get bleeped too?).

There were certainly ups and downs as I moved through the diagnostic process.  Getting the best personal treatment plan for me and putting together a team of experts to work together has been a challenge.  I've "fired" a few people along the way but never because money seemed more important to them than me.

I'm sorry you are feeling that way.  I do think others here have delt with similar issues.  MS is a very expensive and frustrating disease so I guess it isn't surprising.

If health care workers do view us as a paycheck, I would suggest there are easier ways to make a buck.  Is there something specific going on you want to share or ask about?

no.  I feel my doctor really cares about her patients and she shows her dedication with  the crazy hours she works in the clinic (if I am waiting for hours and finally see her at 6pm she has been working all day!) If  I call her she (or her nurse) calls me back to discuss even unrelated concerns and she really knows her stuff. diagnosed my ovarian cyst when I developed severe amdominal pain completely unrelated to my stem cell transplant.   If you don't get that you need to re *****.

Hi Crwriter- if you are getting that feeling from your medical providers it means it is time for you to move on to another medical team.  Don't allow yourself to be reduced to just another number for the doctors.

Yes, the drug companies do make a nice paycheck off of us, but that's corporate business.  We can't fight that one - and we need them and their drugs as much as they need us and our $$$.

hugs, Lulu
