Needing Help

Hello, my name is Mollyrae and I have been a longtime member here at MedHelp. I have basically posted in the Pain Management forum and started a group called " The Chronic Pain Couch".  I am asking for some help with some symptoms I have had recently.

The symptoms I speak of really started about 7 months ago when I had trouble with my muscles and joints. I was fine in the late morning and early afternoon but when late afternoon came around, I started to go down hill. By bed time I could not sleep because the pain in my legs, heels and shoulders was too great. In the late afternoon I also felt fluish with chills and needed bed rest. During the day my muscle in my back will lock up and become very painful.

During the day if I did more than my normal housework, shopping or yard work I would take a breather by sitting down. Getting up after a 10 minute rest was horrendously painful and needed to work it off slowly. BTW, I also itch like crazy in the weirdest spots. It's a deep itch that cannot be satisfied easily. The muscle and joint pain was so great last week that it drove me to the Doctor. I had a battery of blood tests done and all was pretty normal with the exception of my Sed Rate. Normal is 0-20 and mine was 67. I was given a five day, 20 mg per day dose of prednisone which help nicely.

I have read about lesions in the brain and wonder if this pertains to me. About 7 years ago and after many daily headaches, I was given an MRI of the Brain. The Doctor found 2 very small lesions in my white matter and attributed it to a possible old head injury. Nothing further was done with it. I neglected to tell the Doctor this as I forgot about it until I was sitting at the table pondering over all of this. Now that I have the symptoms I speak of, does any of this relate to MS? I see the Doctor again on Tuesday and want to be prepared for it. I will tell her about the lesions at that time.

I would really like to hear from others with the symptoms they've had and compare.

My best,
Mollyrae

Hi Mollyrae and welcome,

Having a few small lesions discovered on an MRI is actually very normal, if the 2 small lesions were attributed to possibly being from an old head injury, then i'd have to assume the location was common or more consistent with micro vascular impact trauma than any of the medical conditions that causes symptomatic issues from brain lesions.

To be honest, what you are experiencing could be caused by any number of things, but nothing to me is actually standing out as being suggestive of a neurological condition like MS. Depending on what the medical condition you have been diagnosed with and or the medications you take for the condition, it's more likely that these changes are interrelated to what you already know.

I personally wouldn't be concerned about MS but i do think you should speak to your doctor again about what you're experiencing, muscle and joint pain, feeling fluish and having chills sounds more like there might be a viral bug or infection brewing....

Cheers..........JJ
