So this is happening...

right now I'm sitting in the psych ward at HUP and going to a treatment center for anxiety depression etc for a couple weeks. Waiting for my dad to bring me clean clothes toothbrush etc, my symptoms " sound asbif they don't fit one disorder so it's most likely depression and anxiety" still no MRI after hours at HUP but they will have regular medical docs at this center, including a neurologist. I feel like my herniated discs are causing pain I am also dealing with a lot but I guess I'll to this center they will run medical tests as well as psyhiatric .  My symptoms are too broad for the doctors and my old doc never sent them my medical records. I hope I get some answers I'm relitively calm, it must be the half mg of Ativan they gave me... Thought I'd get an MRI by now but ianstead I feel so confused. When I have bulging discs without injury causing them why won't ANYONE do a freaking MRI!?? *sigh* at least I won't be lonely here...

If you were suicidal it is good they are taking you seriously. Just relax it can feel really out of your control.

Just from experience do not get upset if they only focus on your mental health. Unfortunately that is how our medical system tends to work. Everything is divided into Medical and Psychiatric. If you get upset it will make things worse.

It is not you its the system. I have had lots of experience with this sort of thing. Just cooperate and when you get out explore other avenues.

I am lucky to have a Psychiatrist who believed I had a Neurological Disorder before I was diagnosed.

People are complicated and rarely have just one thing wrong with them.

We have to go to a Specialist for this and a Specialist for that and sometimes we do not even know what Specialist to go to to find the problem.

I am Bipolar and I love how my Primary Care Doctor looked at me like I had two heads when I filled out the beginning form. Now she says "You are so together and Sane". lol

You take care of yourself

I also had so many symptoms the doc's didn't know what to do with. Finally, they put me on Lyrica. It saved my life. Could you also be having nerve pain? Doc's are not sure if the pain has anything to do with my MS or not. Good Luck!

kmil99 has a good point--be sure to let them know that you will be able to deal with the emotional stuff much better if they look into what's wrong with you physically.

Stay in touch--we'll be thinking of you.

Gentle (((((hugs))))) and prayers,

Hang tuff.  Go through whatever they want to help you with.  However, don't let them forgoet the physical problems too.  Let them know that it would be easier to deal with the emotional stuff if someone would at least look into the physical stuff.  It doesn't matter which came first, both deserve treatment.

Let us know how you come out.  Thought are with you!

CC,
I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I believe the medical personnel have to prioritize the patient's complaints and symptoms and the talk of suicidal thoughts ranks at the top.  They will do a thorough evaluation and I hope help you with the anxiety you say you experience.  Then they will look at the physical problems to see if there's something there to exacerbate the anxiety.

You are in good hands - get better, ok?

Also, I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? The new doc read all my notes and evrything but was more concerned that I mentioned suicide so they overlooked the main reason I started seeing a doctor in the first place. They will have medical evaluations here too so I guess this is the right step.
