3 weeks after brain surgery

Hey everyone,
Huge thanks to those of you who had me in your thoughts and prayers during my recent brain surgery. You all carried me through the operation magnificently and I'm very happy to report that I'm feeling on top of the world.

Looking back on the last few months I must admit to being overwhelmed by the long term poor statistics for males in my age group and I allowed fear to takeover for a few weeks. I did so much planning - updating will, writing down lists of important things - it was all totally unnecessary. My mind is actually much sharper now for having the tumour removed and my stuttering and headaches are now completely gone!

I feel very disappointed by the brain tumour site that I turned to for support and information about my situation. It was overly alarmist with most people seeming to take six to twelve months to recover if at all. The site was a showcase for poor outcomes and people who craved sympathy and to shout out about the dangers of what is mostly a benign condition. Yes, I feel angry that I let myself get sucked in by it all.

The great news is that now I finally feel as if I have dramatically improved as a result of having the tumour out. I always blamed MS for all my symptoms but obviously the meningioma was a significant problem. I can't tell you how great it is have my cognitive ability back, the dreaded headaches gone, and the embarrassing stuttering just a memory. The best news is that my tumour looks as if it was benign despite its unusual rapid growth and the fact that males seem to have stage II or III. So no radiation for me!

I finally feel as if my MS is improving compared to May 2011. My sensory symptoms are so very light and my leg weakness is non existent today. So here's to looking forward to the future with hope and joy. Today is a great day to be alive.

Thank you so very much for your support in getting me through this health crisis which seems to be a turning point for me.

Blessings
Alex

Hi Alex!

I couldn't be happier to read this - I cannot imagine you with even more cognition - oh my are we in for a treat! You have always been so well spoken, your humor always puts a smile on my face, and now to know that you've gotten back some of those things that tumor too - hallelujah! You are special - you are a gift.

Everyone deserves to feel good - glad you got you some of that going on :) Been a long time coming for sure.

Well, I don't blame you - you never know what to expect or what they're going to find when they get in there. Thankfully, it was taken care of and benign. Such good news for you!  I'm happy for you!
