PAIN after SSEP

So I went in yesterday for my SSEP. They gave me Valium. Which at first the thought made me nervous..but everyone I spoke with said that it would relax my muscles so they could get a better reading...and when I voiced concerns about dis-comfort (leading up to the appt.) everyone I talked to said that I wouldn't feel a thing.

..I had my upper and lower done. And during the test had the hardest time relaxing because the shocks felt so intense. After the test I felt so sore, and today it is even worse. I have been exhausted.

I thought it would be in and out... done.

Grrrrrrr.

(hopefully THIS test shows something. haven't had one, yet that has)

Next appt. is on the 26th of this month. To review SSEP and bloodwork.

Wish me luck.

My SSEP (Somatosensory Evoked Potential) was done on my upper and lower extremities. They connected wires along the nerve pathways from my head to my toes, they had two points where they sent a pulsing shock (light, but discomforting). They seperate the test into two different segments of upper and lower. The first was just behind the inside ankle bones. The second at the wrist. I was told that the ankle would be the most discomforting, but for me the wrist was harder. I had a hard time breathing and was incredibly itchy. Since the test my muscles have been getting sorer by the day. Muscle fatigue comes on ridiculously  fast. My joints are killing me and my legs are crawling with ants and feel like they've been deep frozen (numbness to the touch).

But Please don't let any of that scare you. I'm one person and everyone I talked to was fine with the test. And all the symptoms could also be an un-related "flare -up".

That was my experience.

SSEP?  Somatosensory evoked potential?  Or something else.

The reason I ask is that I have an evoked potential scheduled for mid April.  I had one done in '03, i think, or maybe '05.  A while ago, anyways.  LOL  Point being, that is far too distant in my past, so I don't remember it at all.

If that IS what you are talking about, what kind of pain do you mean?  Just wondering what I have to look forward to, is all.  LOL

All I know is that they plan on doing a five hour test.  Somatosensory, brain stem auditory and visual.

I can handle some pain, but, it's nice to be prepared for it, I think?  LOL

Thanks

Erica
