Has anyone tried compound 4-Aminopyridine for PAIN?

ALSO,  what has been your favorite medicine for SPASMS?  The one that you think has the fewer side-effects.
Thanks for any replys.

I take 4-ap. The reason I got on it is that I complained of problems with walking, especially lack of endurance. It helps somewhat, but no miracles for me. The couple times I tried stopping it, I was worse, though.

Do you have neuropathic pain? I'm not sure 4-ap would work for that. A lot of times they use anti-epileptic medicines for paresthesias and neuropathic pain because they tamp down the intensity of the signals in the brain and thus the perception of pain.

So far as I understand it, 4-ap is basically the opposite. It lowers the action potential of neurons so they fire more easily and thus they don't need as much of an electrical signal to fire. Seizures can be a side effect of 4-ap or you will get them if you overdose. I think I read that more paresthesias and pain can actually be a side effect of 4-ap. One thing I did read was that you can get facial tingling and, although I had that before, it has increased since I've been on the 4-ap.

As for spasms, I'm still not sure what they are. They sound like they should move. I did have an odd pulsing thing going on in my upper thigh this morning so maybe that's a spasm. I do have spasticity, but I just get a lot of stiffness. I'm on baclofen for that. I don't really feel differently, but I do walk better.

I hope you find something that helps you.

Hello   I am a newbie and am reading, reading ,reading

I have not found one drug that will help with my spasms.  If there is one out there, I would really like to find it.   I call myself the spasm queen.  I hace purchased every
lotion , potion, and gizmo out these.

I even bought a homedics massage chair.  When i relax in the chair It makes them bareable.  Heat( which I know is bad for ms)  helps the the spasms also.
I also have not heard of this med.                Be well, Linda

Truely I have not heard of the med you ask about.  My spasms are mild and infrequent.  I don't know if you can contribute that to the meds I take or not.  I know before the meds I had RLS really bad.  I would also wake with leg spasms/cramps.

So I guess I am saying I don't know but I am sure as we move through the day there will be others who will know.

I don't know if we have met or if I have said welcome so I am saying it now...Welcome to the forum.
