OMG! The WORST cramps...

I had several cramps last night in my pelvic region - basically the lady bits.  The whole thing just went crazy, and kept doing it.  It felt like when my calf or my hand goes into spasm, so I'm guessing it was spasticity or spasm.  Any ideas?

Hi Jen,
sounds horrible and I hope you get some relief, it could be you ovulating but it could also be that you might have a cyst or it could be bladder spasms.

I guess there are endless possibilities and you should always consult a doctor.

I get spasms in my urethra and in my bladder, very often my bladder spasms feel like painful birth contractions, this is often how people describe bladder spasms.  I sometimes unfortunately lose urine with my spasms.  The drug Vesicare helped me heaps with this problem but created other problems.  I find my spasms very painful.  My urologist and neurologist have both confirmed that my bladder spasms are from cord lesions.

I think that you need to go to your doctor and assess what is causing it.  I am menopausal so I think my problems overlap each other, I have a Marina IUD fitted to stop my heavy bleeding that I was getting.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Cheers,
Udkas.

The doctor thinks it's ovulation - after all, I haven't ovulated in ten years.  So it's not surprising that it would hurt some.

My theory is that the process of ovulation (the egg breaking through the ovary wall) set off spasms in that area...  Seems like every injury that I get is followed by a spasm, so this would be a logical conclusion.

The good news is that I'll be seeing the PCP tomorrow for my wellness exam - I'm going to talk to him about my possible thyroid imbalance, so I can mention this too.

Today I feel a lot better, aside from some soreness around that area.  It's like it got a really hard workout last night!  Too bad it wasn't more fun.

I think I've figured out what it is...  Which leads me down an interesting train of thought...

I've been off the pill for two months.  This is the first ovulation I've had in probably ten years...  So it's normal for ovulation to be a little painful.

But - and here's the kicker - it was so painful and horrible that I wonder if it really was a spasm, set off by the ovulation.

When I've had spasms of that intensity before, it was because I'd injured myself.  One time I broke my toe (ooh, that was bad!)  and another was when my vascular insufficiency flared up, causing my left leg to become inflamed.

So should women with MS always be on some sort of birth control?  My last period was awful, too - the worst pseudo-exacerbation I've had in a long time.

I know how that feels, I have had it a couple of times, not sure what causes it or what it is.. it feels like a spasm.. it lasted 5 min or so then calmed down.... I guess we should ask the Neuro.. I've got an appt on Wed, I will add this to my list.. but then the Neuro doesn't always answer all my questions.. I have too many sometimes.

take care
