2nd MRI coming up on Monday... and anyone suffer with Iliotibial band dysfunction?

Hi friends,

I like that, having you guys as friends.

Had an apptmt. with my GP today, because of the hip thing, and I wanted her to note my ongoing month-long eye twitch. My neuro has gone on leave unexpectedly, and I am so grateful for a great GP who is knowledgeable and willing to order continued testing in the interim.

I thought I had developed arthritis in my hip, but turns out it is the Iliotibial band muscles gone rogue. Anyone else had trouble with this. It is quite painful.

I'll be updating when I hear from the MRI (being done Mon. 29th). Hopefully my spots are either disappearing or at least not increasing.

Prayers for all....

Hi becca,

I unfortunately suffer from the same ailment. Wikipedia has a good explanation as does Rice University ,which includes one of the exercises to keep the iliotibial (IT band) band from tightening up. It can be very painful!

What you really need first is a good physcial therapist to help restore the IT band to as close to normal as possible.  Then continue with streches to maintain it. My neuro literate PT says this is common in MS.

Here is the link to the Rice University site:

http://www.rice.edu/~jenky/sports/itband.v2.html

Ask your GP for a referral to PT. I know the pain VERY WELL and if if the IT band isn't streched daily, it will continue to be bothersome trust me.

Good luck,
Ren

Hi Ren,

THANKS for the great info. I will definitely do the stretching. Today I feel like the other leg is starting to have the same problem. Maybe because it is trying to compensate for the other?

Gosh I don't know. All I know is that I am 35 and having trouble with walking. My lifestyle has changed so much. At least I have finally gone from totally freaking out to feeling more calm. Just realizing whatever comes I can get through it, even though it may be hard. It's nice to lose the anxiety. I haven't been dx'd, but something is progressively wrong. I have a followup brain MRI on Monday. The last one showed three spots.

This forum and people like you have helped me a lot.

I'll be praying for you. I will check into PT, although my insurance is about to change, so may need to wait.

Thanks again!

If you Google [Iliotibial band Multiple sclerosis] you will see that the two commonly seem to go together.
