Oral Drug Trial

I saw my Consultant yesterday and do feel very lucky as although I have only seen him 3 times I feel we have struck up a great realtionship and understanding. He was pleased that I seem to be stable once again and has said that I can start the screening for the drug trial once again starting next month. So I am cautiously optimistic but need to stay well as I have a lot to get through until the final decision which will be in December. Let's hope for a good present this year.

I did find out something that I had misunderstood about the trial....neither I nor my Consultant will know if I have been on the placebo or the drug at the end of the 6 months and this is the nature of the double blind study. But whatever happens assuming I have been Ok throughout the duration of the trial, I will be able to go on the drug at the end of the 6 months (or continue it if I have been on it in the trial which only the drug compnay will know). In a way I feel relieved about this as I think I would feel disappointed if I found out I had been on the placebo so perhaps it is better to remain in the dark.

Think I should have written this in my journal, but never mind it is here for all to read.

Love Sarah x

sarah,

i'm so glad you posted here as i find this fascinating!  so even after the 6 mos. have passed, you will not learn if it was placebo or drug you'd been taking?  that is crazy i do think not to tell you in the end, as it would be nice to know how your body was actually doing in those 6 months....whether you were more/less symptomatic either on or off the drug would be useful to know i think.

anyway, in spite of all of that, it is wonderful that it looks as though you will be accepted to join in this trial!

i wish you all good things and good, stable health that lasts for a very long time...or atleast until december!!
