Synotim of withdrawal

What are the symptoms of withdrawal from reading  this board?

When I posted my goodbye last week it was because I was getting overwhelmed by things going on and needed to reduce my stress levels. The easiest way was to stop coming here and reading posts. I really am sorry that I caused so much concern by my post but I figured that I had already explained that I was getting upset by reading posts on the forum that I figured every one would understand that my goodbye was just my taking a break.

Things have finally calmed down here for the present, but may get really high again soon as my Friend Dave is getting sick again though it has only been about a month since his stomach surgery. Right now he can't keep anything down except a little water and then that is just barely. He called his surgeon earlier today and is waiting for a call back. I kind of expect that later today I will end up having to drive him back up to the VA.

I lost all water to my home on the 10th, and finally got things fixed on Monday evening. I thought for sure the pump in my well had died, but luckily it was just the pressure switch that had died. If it had been the pump it would have cost me about $2000 which I could not afford. The bill only cost me $136. A much better number :).

I also got a bill from the VA for $900 for all of the doctor visits I had during the last year. I have no idea right now how I will pay that. Of course all of my Sx have been going over the hill in the way of severity, or should I say over the mountain. :)

I think the posts that have been bothering me the most are the ones about the mistreatment by doctors. I think this is because others on here have been paying through the nose for the bad care, while my doctor visits are fairly cheap in comparison. So with that in mind how can I ever get good care from the doctors at the VA. I still have not gotten a consult to a GI doctor at the VA and I suspect that they will never schedule one.

Dennis,

I would be on here more and some days I am. I keep my grandson while my daughter is at work so I can't get on to much while he is here. He is only 10 months (well on the 24th) and takes alot of attention.

I the days I don't have him I am on here a lot more, and yes I have no life either, well except my grandson :)

Paula,

That is not an addiction ( in my book ). I was coming here about every 15 minutes or so over 7 or 8 hours each day. I was always disappointed if there were no new  posts since the last time I was on-line. And yes I have NO life. :)

Dennis,

Glad to see you back here. I do understand why you left for a while though, and I understand the addiction of this forum. I log in every day about 2 to 3 times and if I couldn't I would be lost.

I am glad you got your water fixed at minimal cost, what a relief that muct have been.

Sorry to hear about your friend Dave not doing so well. He is lucky to have a friend like you to look after him especially with your own problems going on right now. Good friends like you are hard to find :)

Anyway just wanted to say welcome back and I hope you stay.

Take Care,
Paula

Hi Dennis

It is really good to see you again and thanks for updating on what has been going on. It sounds like you have had an awful lot to cope with and I am not surprised that you have felt everything getting on top of you. Life is hard enough without any additional pressures such as bills mounting up and people we care about being unwell. I really hope that Dave's health improves soon.

I can empathise a little with the water problem as I am having some work done in my house at the moment and last week the electrician went through a water pipe so I had no water for a day until the plumber came and sorted it all out. You realise when you don't have water just how important and precious it is. I just counted my blessings that he hit the pipe he did because if he had gone through the central heating pipe we would have been completely flooded!!

Anyhow please take care of yourself.

Best wishes

Sarah

Yes the VA has some very horrible policies.

Each year they check my income to see how much of my medical costs are covered. The year before I had to only pay a co-pay for my medicines.  While now I have a co=pay for doctors visits as well.

It is now costing me $15 for each visit to my PCP and $50 for all other doctors. I also have an $8 co-pay for each 30 day Rx. A lot of these medicines would only cost me $4, but they don't allow the doctors to give me an Rx that I can take to an outside pharmacy unless it is an emergency. The only good news in the the area of doctors is there is a $960 maximum in co-pay.

What irritates me the most about how they figure this stuff out is they look at your previous year income and then bill you after the fact for the doctor visits so you can't adjust your visits according to how much you can afford. Also if I end up meeting the income levels allowed for this year I won't get refunded what I am paying for doctor visits this year. So in essence they get two years worth of payments for each year they check your income. Next year I will probably end up meeting their requirements because of the medical bills for this year. The way I see it as related to civilian life would be you going out and buying a car then next year the dealer has you pay more because you ended up making more money during the last year since you bought the car.

Hi Dennis,

It is a shame that Dave continues to have problems - I will continue to hope that his health turns better, and does so soon.

You are right that the forum posts have been in the dumps quite a bit lately - seems to be a lot of drama with all these neuros who have lost their brains.  Hopefully it will quiet a bit and people will be getting those well deserved answers.  Being  part of that downward spiral can be awfully hard to shake off so it is so much easier

The water pump switch is sure a blessing - that mega-bill to be able to shower and cook and flush would have been a hard one to swallow.  $136 vs $2000 is quite the difference.

I'm surprised at the amount you owe to the VA - I thought most of your medical care would be covered.  That just goes to show you how little I know of how your system works.

As for withdrawal, I think it might be possible to do a slow weaning off of MH, but the sudden cold turkey might be very serious to your health! LOL

I'm glad to see you around - you don't have to be here all the time but do check in once in a while and make sure all of us are doing ok.  And you might want to give us an update on you and Dave occassionally, too!

hugs, L
