LP normal...now what? :-(

The receptionist at the doctors office just called and said my doctor told her my LP was "normal". he's on vacation for the next 2 weeks, and I have a followup scheduled for 8/4.

At this point I'm just not sure what to do. My symptoms point to MS. The mimics have been ruled out. But my tests are either normal, or so slightly abnormal that they can't be used to diagnose.

I'm so frustrated and just trying to ignore my symptoms as much as I can. I'm lucky that my symptoms are not too bad yet, but I'm so scared I'm going to go undiagnosed and without DMD until I have a major symptom...and that is *exactly* what I'm hoping to avoid.

I just don't even know where to go from here.

I am so sorry! I understand your frusteration of not having an offical diagnosis!! Keep your chin up! You will get an answer! I went three years undiagnosed and no one believed me until finally I was going so far down hill that my quality of life was becoming really low and my doctor finally realized something was wrong.

I am going for an offical diagnosis here shortly. I know you do not want to get to that point! I understand. But I actually got to the point where I was glad it became so noticable so that a diagnosis HAS to be seen.

I wish you all the well and hope your doctor has an answer for you shortly so you dont have to get the extent that I have gotten. You have my support and all of these nice people on here to guide you and comfort you. If you need anything please do not hesitate to talk to me. I will help in any way possible!

i am sad for you, i have the same problem and it stinks.  for me, i just take meds that my family doctor will give me when i have symptoms and try to just adjust life to deal with the symptoms...summer stinks.

eveytime i ask my doctor about some weird symptom she says "well MS can cause that"  she obviously think si have it but cant get a neuro to diagnosis...like you, my tests have come back "normal".

its a frustrating place to be but like tonya said (although i am by no means hoping for the symptoms getting worse)  i kinda hope for that sometimes for something to happen that no one can ignore.

hope you find some relief from your symptoms.  i take neurontin, lots of pain meds, and get lots of rest in the wir conditioning. i have had to stop doing alot of things i like but i guess that is just part of life now.

good luck!!

   Jess,

<>> for starters my Friend.....Not to worry though, You should certainly get a Copy!!!  Read it for yourself, then go from there.

AND.....because MS has No cure.... The UP side is that It will eventually rear it's head up enough to get what is needed for your dx!  Although...your DR is very Pro-Active in your Health Care, So he may still start treating you!

No worries :)  everything is going to be alright!
Take Care,
~Tonya

Oh Jess I saw your headline and my heart just sank for you.  I had so hoped that the LP would help you and the doctors with diagnosis and treatment.  I am so sorry!!

Like Missy I would ask what normal is as far as the O-bands go.  My doc says you need 4 to be positive.  I am assuming your CSF Igg Index was also normal then?  Becuase that is one of the criteria that is used in the McDonald diagnosis.  O-Bands or High Igg Index is a positive LP.

As far as other tests---I just don't understand when tests come back positive but "not high enough".   I have the same thing with several of the blood tests.

I know you are really discouraged right now and disapppointed.  Can you give yourself some time and your body a break today?  Maybe have your husband do something special for you?  Maybe go out with some good friends?

You deserve treatment!!    Red

I would ask to see what "normal" is. What my doc said was 2  o bands is abnormal but Ihave read somewhere that some docs say that 4 o bands is normal. So what is normal to one doc may not be normal to another. especially of they are aggressive. Dr. Cape "seems" to be looking at the clinical picture I hope I am right anyway.
