MS

I am a 38 year old female and had a complete MS work up in 2007. MRI, a thing where they hook wires up to you and trigger the nerves, the thing where you stare at the screen etc. Everything was negative. I would like to know what the chances are that it could show up now (6 years later)?

I'm sure you were treated for the Lyme disease- but do you think it could have either come back- or else not have been completely cured?  MS and Lyme disease look so much alike, that they are often confused with one another (but I'm sure you already knew that...)

The symptoms I had 6 years ago were the tingling in hands and feet, ringing in the ears, panick attacks, headaches, tmj, dizziness, confusion, weakness etc. I had been sick for a long time and kept getting turned away with the doctors telling me I was fine. It turned out after 18 months of more and more symptoms I self diagnosed and  tested positive for Lyme Disease. I was treated and got better with a few "side effects". This was all during the time I was tested for MS. Every test I had done was normal. Actually I had 2 MRIs. Now I have this sort of cloudiness in my right eye (usually doesn't bother me in the daylight). I went to the eye docs and he said it could be caused by migraines. It comes and goes. I do get headaches...sometimes pretty bad. I also get a good amount of palpitations which I see a cardiologist for. Tingling in one or both hands sometimes. Weakness in my hands in the morning. Its really the eye thing and morning weakness that have me concerned. Also I have vertigo...also caused by the Lyme Disease.

Most MS is relapsing-remitting, meaning that symptoms can come and go, sometimes with months or years between exacerbations. It certainly could show up for you now (although I guess we’re not sure what if anything showed up for you six years ago).

I did the “hook wires up to you” thing and some other tests about 18 years ago, and I went away with no explanation for my symptoms (MS wasn’t even mentioned), and eventually they went away. About 10 years ago, I had an exacerbation that led to my diagnosis. They do come out of nowhere.

Tell us more about your symptoms, current and historically, and the tests you’ve gone through, and we’ll do whatever we can to help you sort this out. Be assured that many of us live well with MS, and you can too (if that’s what you’re facing).
