Follow up appointment

I went for my follow up appointment today after having my MRI.  My MRI came back clean and the neurologist basically implied that meant MS was ruled out.  So she is sending me for an EMG and also took blood work to check for myasthenia gravis because of my eye issues.

Overall I have been feeling better.  My left hand and foot are still somewhat numb and I still have blurry/double vision at times.

She is sending for the nerve conduction study (EMG) to check for carpal tunnel which I feel is silly.  I obviously have other issues.

What else can an EMG tell you?  I'm concerned that if she is only checking for this one thing that something else might get missed.

Any advice?

Am EMG is run to determine if the source of the numbness is in the peripheral nerves vs the central nerves. If the EMG is normal then the problem is in the CNS.

I'm not an expert, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that emg's are better suited to finding peripheral nerve problems than central nervous system issues. This might include the foo/hand numbness.

The visual stuff I'm not sure about. I think it's good that you are seeing a specialist.

By the way I had a positive Babinski response on the left foot and the doctor also noted slight left side weakness.
