its very common to have a positive ANA i had one and they all said that did not mean much because you could have one one time and not the next...who knows ..seems to me if it is so inaccurate than why use it....

Welcome to the forum! I had multiple brain lesions for years, but I was diagnosed
w/MS very early.I spent 1995 to 2001 on Avonex a medication to help stop the lesions, but it didnt stop anything. I had fatigue, bouts of paralysis 3x, Bells Palsy, blindness in left eye, etc. In 2006, I was told I had bi-lateral brain damage due to the lesions, so now I have Narcolepsy and I'm deaf in my left ear due to the damage done to my brain from the disease.  I also had migraine headaches and I had a severe open head injury in 1990. I have read that head injuries are common among people with MS, but that is just one theory.

I would make sure that my neuro orders my MRI's w/contrast, because that will let him know which lesions are active. I was diagnosied at 25 years old and I'm now 39, and walking is hard for me to.

Do you ever have the burning feeling, numbness or tingling?  Do you have pain in your joints? These are things most MS patient experience, so if you start to have these symptoms call your doctor asap. I pray that you don't have MS because it is a difficult disease to live with and it can be very hard to get a definative diagnosis of MS.

Hi Julia, You're new here right?  Welcome.  If I understand right, and I am no medical expert, a positive ANA usually indicates that the doctors should look for lupus.  There are a few other autoimmne disotrders that also have a positive ANA.  Lupus is one of the great mimics of MS and has similar symptoms.

Brain lesions can be caused by a number of things and are best left to be analyzed by the radiologists and neurologists.  Brain lesions are simply brain tissue that is abnormal or damaged by disease, trauma or inflammation. These lesions show up on your MRI.

When you have the time and inclination, come back and tell us more about your symptoms.  in the meantime don't miss reading through the health pages posted here to learn more about MS and the diagnosis process.

Stay in touch,
Lulu
