Work Disability advice

Can anyone offer any tips, advice, do's and don'ts or a good luck charm as I prepare for round 2 of "Keeping your Job" at work tomorrow?
So far, the choices have been:

Take a leave without pay with no guarantee the my job will be there when I return;
possibly qualifying for company disability( the 28 page policy re this was a tough read, full of loopholes for the company or waiting it out until I can no longer function.

Currently I have met the definition for working 12 months plus one day to supersede the "pre-existing condition clause". The gamble is if I don't take it now, will I return to  full year of health and ability to function on a full-time basis?

Two other points to consider: IF I qualify per the disability policy, I can have periods of "temporary recovery" which restores my full pay for up to 6 months at a time. Less over-all income but something is better than nothing. Second point: I work for attorneys, loopholes are hard to come by.

If anyone can share any advice or tips I would appreciate it. If not, send good thoughts tomorrow at 1:30 pm.

Thanks!
Ren

Thank you for your all your thoughts and good wishes!!!  Yes, today is the decision day. Actually they decided for me last week and I requested today's meeting after doing my research  on ADA rights, calling an d speaking with the disability rep for the insurance company etc. and I formulated a compromise.

Since I work with attorneys, albeit for the most part they are caring and compassionate, money is money  and if I can't bring in the income outlined in my job description then they have their rights, too.

I'm bringing a third solution to the table today , along with some MS education, and hopefully it will fly.

Thanks again...fingers crossed at 1:30 :-)

I can only say at the last minute here is that if you don't have to make a final decision at this meeting today, the please hold them off while you search for more information.  If you can hold them off, then I think it would be worthwhile to see an attorney, if affordable, to help with that decision.

I have a friend going through this right now too and she has a lot of lessons learned since she made her decision.  If her experiences can help you in any way, please let me know.

I will definitely be with you in spirit today at 1:30.  Take care and let us know what happens.

Lots of best wishes, prayers, hugs and whatever else to help you.
I wish I too could have more to say.  I took disability from work in US and there are a lot of loop holes where you can loose it so easily.  Hope you can find someone with more experience!

Will be thinking of you,
Tracy

Agree with others here, laws are different here in the UK but it is way too big a decision to make without some advice from those who have dealt with this before.

Sorry I can only send loads of good wishes and hugs from across the deep blue.

(((hugs)))

Oh gosh Ren, this is difficult decision.

I can't offer any real advice either, but is it possible for you to contact someone, maybe the MS Society, that can help with this decision or give you some advice?

I know that your meeting is tomorrow, so that may not be possible in your timeframe, but do you have to come up with a final decision during that meeting?   This is a tough situation for you without having any advisor.

Can the Americans with Disability Act help you somehow?

I imagine that working with attorneys makes this even more difficult.

Wishing you the best!!

Take care,
Pat :-)
