eye problems: new evidence of what?

Hey Guys and dolls,

I went to the optometrist (i will be seeing an opthalmologist), it was a hoot, but i do love to laugh lol Anyway, a few things turned up this time, forgive me i've forgotten all the names and have to go with explanations of which i do remember, I think my brain left the building, half way through lol! Right eye is my bad eye, did not expect that, its the left one that hurts etc

Damage to the optic nerve Right: mild/early Glarcoma?
Horizonal jerk Right: cant recall its name but need prism
Right significantly different to the left: cant recall the numbers
Long sighted and mild short sighted: Left and Right (can't read close and distance has slight fuzz)
Cork screw veins: Left and Right
Preasure normal: Left and Right

When I had the pictures taken of the veins and nerves, a strange thing was discovered (gosh i'm weird!) the eye looked pretty good, nice and pink with no obvious areas of damage apart from the mild optic nerve thingy she said was most likely early glarcoma. What was weird though was every single vein in my eyes (L & R) are crinkly, or what she called cork screw. She was rather shocked at how crinkly these veins were, she said she only usually sees the 'cork screws' in people with things like hypertension but mine were every vein and in her words 'quite bizar'.

I did crack up laughing, my vein issues are literaly everywhere, even my eyeballs, lol what next? So i need glasses, need to find out why my eye veins are now all cork screw instead of normal and if thats something that needs working out sooner rather than later. Also need to find out if the slight optic nerve damage is early Glacoma or not, and if that needs working out sooner rather than later.

So my sight issues are there, and incosistent with age (lol did i laugh when she said that) but what it all means i am clueless, so does anyone have any clues to what this is all about??

Cheers........JJ

Hey thanks Jess and Bob,

It was Horizontal Nastigmus, and i do have double vision, i've been saying its almost double but she said it was still classed as double, i've also got screwed up depth perception and visual spacial probs. I dont know if these things will come good again or not, with prism glasses, i have my fingers crossed it does!

I'm also confused about the Glaucoma, she said it was a pale optic disc which i thought was optic neuritis, i googled a bit over the last few days and did find a couple of papers mentioning Glaucoma without increased intra ocular pressure, so its possible. I was also trying to find something regarding the corkscrew ocular veins, and i couldn't find anything with every vein in the eye corkscrew.

The ones i could find only had a few corkscrews, not all of them and they usually had other damage, like micro hemerages or cotton wool spots and mine didn't have anything like that. Interesting but my eyes have been hurting since the tests 3 days ago (feel strained and soar) and the veins in the whites of my eyes are corkscrew too, looks weird lol!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was ON after all, it would make sense with everything else going on.

Cheers....JJ

OT i'm watching a cat play soccer with my son's soccer ball in my back yard and its not my cat! or maybe i'm seeing things lol!

Intra Ocular Pressure -  Left and Right Eye normal and Early Glaucoma do not make sense.
By definition Glaucoma is increased intra ocular pressure.  Changes to the Optic disk can be caused by other things beside Glaucoma (like Optic Neuritis or Hypertension.)  Corkscrew vessels are seen in ocular hypertension, but that is the same thing as Glaucoma.  It will be interesting to see what the Ophthalmologist says.

JJ, is the horizontal jerk a nystigmus? I have a downward nystigmus, but not enough where I have needed a prism (my doctor always asks if I have double vision but I do not). I have 2 friends who have the prism and they have said it helps tremendously, but does take a bit of getting used to.

I'm sorry I can't help with anything else :-(
