Hi there,
I have a similar problem at the moment where my whole hand contorts into an unusual posture and takes about 15 minutes before returning to normal. The first doctor I consulted told me it was Dystonia and would most likely be progressive and get worse. After reading about dystonia I heard that it can be secondary to MS and some other neurological disorders, so I rang my neuro as I don't have a MS diagnosis but there was a big question mark as to if I might have MS. My neuro said it was just muscle cramps, but my GP disagreed so in total confusion I went to another Dr for another opinion, this one is sitting on the fence and has referred me back to the neuro, so I can relate to how you are feeling.
If it is dystonia MRI does not diagnose Dystonia but can rule out other possible causes, a normal MRI will not totally rule out MS. You would be best to have some nerve conduction studies done, this may help diagnose dystonia or something else like a pinched nerve etc.
I think your Doctor should offer you some kind of answer and I agree with Sumanadevii find another neuro if need be.
I will post what my neurologist has to say about my contorting spasms when I see him in about 4 weeks time.
Best wishes
Udkas.
It could be so many things..even a pinched nerve, dystonia, Parkinson, etc,. Where does the neuro want to go with it? Surely the answer "it is not MS" is not enough. If not MS what is it? That is the question to ask the neuro. If he just wants to dismiss it, find another neuro. Obviously something is happening.
