hey, fellow - spazzers! Tried this?

For those who weren't around then, we used to have regular online "spaz" parties for those of us who live with spasms and spasticity. I was enjoying a nice several week stretch of low symptoms, following 6 months of torture, when BAM! back they come! Don't know why I am always surprised when this happens (ignorance is bliss???).

Anyway, I digress (for a change). I found a chiropractor who is very "new school", holistic, willing to work on anything. He has been really helping me with my spasms. I have new ones between my ribs, down my left side and the dreaded glutes. He has been going into a spasming muscle (and he is able to "catch them in the act" - amazing as a neuro can't seem to) and "digging" out the spasm, so to speak. He also offers nutritional supplements that can help as well.

I am still taking my baclofen like a good girl, but this is has been more helpful to me. He expressed frustration on my behalf the other day re the lack of action on the part of the neuro (only continuing to jack up the baclofen dosage and that's that). I am thinking of seeing if I can get the 2 to talk on the phone. Depends on how my neuro feels about chirpractors. I know how my chiropractor feels about neuros, lol! I was very skeptical about chiropratic myself, but my insurance covers it, so I figured it's worth a try, and it surely was!

Anyway, just wanted to offer up an other possible source of some relief for my fellow spazzers. Be well!

PENN,

SWEETIE, IT'S A SHAME WHEN THE PHYSICIAN SIDE DOES NOT SEE THE HOLISTIC APROACH WITH A CHIRO.

CHIRO'S DON'T AGREE WITH THE PHYSICIAN AND PHARMACUTICAL SIDE.

IF THESE DRS. AND THEIR CONCEPTS OF BOTH,MEDS AND MANIPULATION WOULD WORK AS A TEAM.MANY WOULD SEE GREAT RESULTS.

I TAKE HIGH DOSES OF BACLOFEN,ITS NOT ENOUGH,SO I HAVE 3 OTHER MEDS ,THAT HELP THE SPASTICITY,IF IT WASN'T FOR THESE MEDS,I'D NOT BE WALKING.

A MED OFF LABEL QUALIQUIN HAS BEEN A GREAT BLESSING AT NIGHT.

I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE GETTING SOME RELEIF.

RUBBER BAND THERAPY WORKS GREAT ALSO,IT HELPS KEEP THE MUSCLES LOOSENED UP,ALWAYS STRETCH SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.

PHYSICAL THERAPY HAS HELPED A GREAT DEAL.PLUS I HAVE A NEW EMPI TENS UNIT,I WEAR IT DAILY AND ITS ON CONTINUOUS,IT HAS HELPED WITH MY PAIN LEVELS AND THEY GREAT THING ABOUT IT IS,I CAN MOVE THE ELECTRODE PADS TO THE AREAS OF SPASMS AND ON A LOW SETTING IT CAN RELEIVE THEM.

I HAD RESEARCHED THE TENS UNIT AND SPASTICITY,ITS JUST NOW BEING USED FOR SPASMS IN MS PATIENTS OR CHRONIC SPASMATIC PATIENTS AND ITS BEEN PROMISING.

WHEN I LAST SEEN MY PAIN MANAGEMENT DR.WHOM REFERRED ME BACK TO MY NEURO AS HE THOUGHT MY NEURO HAD THE PAIN SCRIPTS AND THE SPASMATIC MEDS AT A CORRECT DOSE.(I CAN RETURN IF I FEEL THE PAIN HAS GOTTEN WAY OUT OF CONTROL AND MY NEURO WASN'T HELPING). I ASK ABOUT A  TENS UNIT FOR THE SPASMS PLUS THE CHRONIC LUMBAR PAIN FROM THE NERVE DISEASE.

HE STATED THROUGH RESEARCH IT SHOWED PROMISE SO HE WROTE THE SCRIPT OUT.

MY TENS I CAN PLUG INTO MY LAP TOP AND SEND  INFO TO MY NEURO AND MY PM DR. WHEN THE SPASMS ARE OUT OF CONTROL AND I CAN'T GET THEM UNDER CONTROL.EVIDENTLY THROUGH THE TENS UNIT IT CAN RECORD THE SPASTICITY LEVELS.THIS HAS BEEN A BIG HELP TO BOTH DRS.

THIS MAYBE AN OPTION, A NEURO,GENERAL PRACTIONER AND EVEN A CHIRO CAN WRITE A SCRIPT FOR A TENS UNIT.

PENN,IT HAS BEEN A GREAT RELEIF,BEFORE I'D HAVE TO GO TO THE ER TO GET RELEIF.

THIS IS JUST A THOUGHT.

20# LESS AWESOME,CAN I HAVE IT.(LOL). SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE DIABETES,IF I MAY,HOW ARE THEY CONTROLLING IT?

EVERYTIME I'M ON SOKU-MEDROL OR PREDNISONE,I HAVE TO TAKE GLUCOPHAGE XR 1000MGS TO KEEP MY SUGAR LEVELS DOWN.

YOU DO WHATS BEST FOR YOU TO GET RELEIF.

HUGS

I get spasms in the stomach area too - really painful because I have scar tissue from 6, count 'em 6, abdominal surgeries (loads of female problems in the past). There is no abdominal wall in the center, only mesh, so those really hurt. My chiro is not afriad to mess even with those. You might want to give it a try.

Merry Christmas to you too

Hi Penn,

That's great news!  You know I've always had the spasms and spasticity, but now I have the spasms in my stomach, they feel like they are way down deep.  It is awful!!

I wonder if a chiro could do anything about those?

No matter what your neuro thinks about your chiro, if it helps, you go girl!!!  As we all know, any relief is a blessing.

Take care of yourself, hope you have a very Merry Christmas!!

Hugs,

Yay! I'm so glad you have this guy and that it's a good supplement to the baclofen.

I AGREE. I KNOW IT DOES NOT RELIEVE THEM COMPLETELY, NOR DOES IT PREVENT THEM (MY BACLOFEN DOESN'T SEEM TO EITHER, LOL) BUT WHEN I HAVE A MUSCLE IN SPASM WHEN I GO - EVERY TIME I GO ALMOST - IT REALLY HELPS TO WORK  IT OUT.

I WISH THAT THE CHIRO AND NEURO WOULD EVER REALLY CONSULT, BUT NEITHER PROFESSION SEEMS TO RESPECT THE OTHER. I DO SEEM TO BE COMING OUT OF MY MUCH-NEEDED BREAK - WAS HOPING FOR A LONGER ONE, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO? tHE CHIRO DOES HELP MAKE IT MORE BEARABLE.

PENN,

I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU ARE GETTING RELEIF FROM CHIROPRACITIC CARE,THERE'S MUCH CONTRIVERSY OVER THIS SUBJECT.

I AM A FIRM BELEIVER THAT THE PROPER CHIRO CAN BE VERY BENIFICIAL.

WHERE EVER YOU GET RELEIF,THIS IS WHATS OF MOST IMPORTANCE.

CHIRO'S DON'T BELEIVE IN THE MEDS AND MANY NEURO'S LOOK AT CHIRO'S BEING LESS THAN ADAQUATE.

FROM PAST EXPERIENCES LETTING DRS. KNOW THAT I WAS UNDER THE CARE OF A CHIROPRACTOR,THEY WERE NOT REAL RECEPTIVE.

I WAS UNDER THE CARE OF A CHIROPRACTOR FOR YEARS,BEFORE I FINALLY HAD MY BACK SURGERIES,MANY MOONS AGO AND I DID GET GREAT RELEIF.

MY CHIRO HAD BECOME A GREAT FRIEND BEFORE I MOVED TO OHIO,BUT STILL CHECKS ON ME OFTEN.HE DID WONDERS FOR MY SPASMS.

YOU GET RELEIF WHERE YOU CAN GET IT.BACLOFEN HELPS.BUT IT DOESN'T HELP THE WICKED SPASMATIC PARTIES WITHIN OURSELVES.

I STILL SUFFER CHRONIC SPASMS AND MEDS(MY COCKTAIL) DON'T RELEIVE THEM TOTALLY.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS,IT GIVES YOU QUALITY OF LIFE AGAIN.

HUGS
