MS & Lesions

Hi, is it possible for a person to exhibit Neurological symptoms associated with MS, without actually having any lesions?  For any of you that have already been diagnosed, did you have lesions on your first MRI..If not, about how long before you start seeing lesions appear...I know that MS affects everyone differently, but I just needed to ask..

Has she been to a MS Specialist? Neurologists specialize and if you see a neurologist who does not know enough about MS you may never get a diagnosis. Also if you can have a MRI on a 3 Tesla MRI it can show more lesions than a 1.5 Tesla.

Enjoy it if it's a treat for y'all. LOL.  I hope you get the white stuff, not the sleet.  It makes everything look so pure.  Covers up all the dead of winter.  It may give you a little pick-me-up.

Try some ibuprofin for now, if you can take it. It may help with weather-related inflammation.  Then, get out and catch some snowflakes n your tongue!

Feel well!

Yes, it sounds like maybe the fibro could be to blame.  Not sure.

Interesting invitation.  I hope you go!

I do not know if the stiffness could be associated with some of my other conditions (fibro, hypermobility syndrome, myoclonus, neuropathy) and so on..My Neuro had his patients that he examined for MS invited...

I'm sorry you are feelingthat way.  I don't know why you're stiff.  You're so young to be having all these symptoms.  Have you given any more thought to the seminar, or haveyou called to see why you were invited?

Have you ever had a rheumatologic blood panel done, like sedimentation rate, RA factor?

I hope you feel better, Thester!

I got up this morning and could not move, very stiff..And I do not really understand that, that is the reason why I really did not overextend myself yesterday..

Thester - good luck to you.  To give you my experience, I had a very mild symptom (minor tingling in my right hand) and had an MRI to check for something else....they found 4 spinal lesions and 8 brain lesions.  So, I think it can be very different from person to person.  My lesions were there and I felt almost perfectly normal.  Granted, now other sypmtoms have developed.  I hope lesions never appear for you and wish you good health!

These bright, sassy wenches are right.  That is not to say the lesions weren't THERE; they just weren't detectable by imaging devices, like MRI machines.  That's why it can take a long time for diagnosis for some people.  Especially people with small lesions.

Quix has had a rapid progression of her disease lately, but no visible signs on her newest MRI.  Her wonderful doc believes she has new lesion activity that is just not visible yet.

One member recently posted information about a new Tesla level (magnet power, I believe) that is supposed to help diagnose MS patients, in particular, YEARS earlier than ever before.  (Whoever posted that -- Thanks!)  It's a problem of size, it seems.  The smaller lesions or hidden lesions just aren't detected until the disease has really wreaked a lot of havoc.

There are other tests, though, that can aid in diagnosis.  Have you decided to go or not to the seminar?

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITHOUT LESIONS,BUT I HAD BRAIN ATROPHY FROM PAST LESIONS.

TODAY'S CRITERIA DRS.USE THE MCDONALDS CRITERIA SCORE.

TO THIS DAY I HAVE THE ATROPHY,LESIONS WERE DETECTED BY A VNG(A EVOKED POTENTIAL DONE BY MY ENT)NEAR THE BRAIN STEM STEM A LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN.I KNOW HAVE LESIONS IN THE THORACIC AND A COUPLE IN THE UPPER C-SPINE

MY UPDATED VEP CAME BACK ABNORMAL FOR BOTH EYES,BUT THE RIGHT EYE HAS BEEN DAMAGED FOR YEARS.

HANG IN THERE,IT CAN TAKE TIME FOR THE LESIONS TO APPEAR IF IT IS INDEED MS.

Not sure if you know, but both of my sisters have MS. One had a clean MRI when she was diagnosed. Now, years later, she lights up like a Christmas tree. The other sister won't even talk about her MS. I have seen several people on the forum who've said they had no lesions show at first - a certain percent do. I've seen that percentage written as anywhere from 5% to 15%, depending on which study you read.

Hope this helps.
