meralagic parasthetica

Has anyone heard of or experienced meralgic parasethica (sp?).  I had experienced a small patch of numbness on my right leg in the fall.  It essentially went away over a couple of months.  Just before christmas it started in my left leg.  It became excruciating.  Any time I moved my leg, it felt like someone was holding a blowtorch to my leg.  There was also the sensation of needles piercing my leg at the same time.

That lasted about a week and now it is numb.  At first my doctor dismissed it as not being ms.  He though I hurt it exercising or lifting something heavy.  He sent me for a test where they basically send electric zaps through electodes on my leg.

I just went back to doctor last week and after reviewing the report from the test, he says that it is part of the ms.  I knew it was even before the test!  The terrible pain is gone  now but  at times have twinges that make my leg jump.

Has anyone heard of this associated with ms?

I should have mentioned that this is something we saw quite a bit of when guys onboard the ship would fall in a 4 point body harness.  The leg straps would bruise the femoral nerves and they would have sensory problems after the fall.  The surgeon told us that the body slamming into the seat belt was the typical "civilian" cause for this condition.

Meralgia Paraesthetica is a peripheral nerve injury (typically a crushed femoral nerve) not related to MS.

Hey Raz... I was diagnosed with PPMS in 2008 and my most recent "weird sensation" is both thighs feeling cold... not to touch, inside!  It is strange, I just saw my neuro a few weeks ago and was not suprised with the symptom.  You should write everything like that down and let neuro know when you go for an appt.

I am in Limbo land still, but have had weird sensations on my tops of thighs, inner thighs and ah regions. sometimes feels like boiling water spilled on me, or sometimes wet and cold. it's just weird and I don't know if I've ever told my neurologist. it just sound to strange. :)
