If memory serves (Who am I kidding? MY memory?!?!), there is now a specific antibody test for NMO a.k.a. Devic's. If that's what I think it is, mine was negative. Last year? No, earlier this year. Sometime.
Whatever you have, get well soon!
Thanks Kelly me too....I don't have any eye issues, just the 95% of my body numbness going on. Like I said before I'm curious if he saw something in my MRI that he thought was reason to test for it.
kwarendorf, thank you so much for that information!! Your the best and I appreciate your knowledge with all of this! It does seem to put my mind at ease a bit more :)
They also thought that I might have neuromyelitis optica at the beginning - about 3-4 yrs ago. This is because of my spinal lesions and having optic neuritis in both eyes fairly close together.
Hope they get it figured out for you.
I'm sorry to hear that your time in Limboland has been extended. Neuromyelitis optica, aka Devic's Disease is a close cousin to MS. There are areas of overlapping symptoms but some interesting differences when it comes to test results. This is from the Cleveland Clinic's web site.
"A spine MRI usually shows areas of inflammation, while brain MRIs generally show minimal changes. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in Devic’s disease differs from that of typical MS in that it usually has a large number of white blood cells, no oligoclonal bands, and normal intrathecal immunoglobulin G (IgG) synthesis."
