Hi and welcome to our little MS community,

It's possible that your daughters eye dr (?) is questioning if Paplledemia is the correct diagnosis.......

"Papilledema is an optic disc swelling that is secondary to elevated intracranial pressure.[1, 2] In contrast to other causes of optic disc swelling, vision usually is well preserved with acute papilledema. Papilledema almost always presents as a bilateral phenomenon and may develop over hours to weeks.

The term, as a matter of definition, is incorrect to be used to describe optic disc swelling with underlying optic nerve infectious, infiltrative, or inflammatory etiologies; but, it is correctly used if the underlying cause of elevated intracranial pressure is infectious, infiltrative, or inflammatory.....

Whilst Optic Neuritis is absolutely connected to MS and it is one of the listed alternative dx for Paplledemia, even if the dx is ON and not Palledemia, that doesn't mean a dx of ON will always develop into MS, because it can be a stand alone dx too. I would highly recommend making an appointment with a neuro-opthalmologist to investigate further.

Cheers..........JJ

I have never heard of Paplledemia being tied to MS. I have only heard of Optic Neuritis and Double Vision for eye disorders with MS. The genetic statistics for inheriting MS are very low. If she had ON, Optic Neuritis that would point to MS.
