ms with long term oral steroids

I HAVE BEEN ON ORAL STEROIDS FOR ABOUT 4 WEEKS DUE TO MS FLARE. I THINK MY IMMUNE SYSTEM CRASHED. MY GUMS STARTED BLEEDING, HAD SORES IN MY MOUTH AND STARTED GETTING CYST / BLISTERS ON MY LOWER BELLY AND THIGHS. THEY BURN AND HURT TILL THE POP THEN ITCH. IS THIS SOMETHING FROM THE STEROIDS OR MS??? OR BOTH???

I was on oral steroids for a month after my first flare, and never had those symptoms. It sounds like you've developed something as a result of your immune system being down.

When I was little, I had HSV-1 on my hips, of all places. They caused blisters to form on each hip, similar to what you describe.

Hi Christina,

It's not typical to take 'oral' steroids for an MS relapse as it's not particularly effective at reducing the severity of MS relapses. Generally IVSM is prescribed but i've not heard of steroids causing blisters or gums to bleed, i do know that steroids suppress the immune system and those on steroids are more susceptible to shingles and chicken pox, so I really think you should bring this to the attention of your doctor and get these blisters looked.

let us know what happens

Cheers.........JJ
