Optic neuritis leading to MS?

Hello All

I'm hoping someone can help?

I was MRI'ed this summer after Optic neuritis last year, it confirmed that I did have a swelling on the optic nerve but no other areas of swelling in the brain.

My Optic neuritis has been settled now for a good 9 months at least but last week I was doing some virgours exercise on my Wii Fit (as you do!) and felt a pain behind the affected eye and later on my vision was slightly effected again.  Days later a pain re-occurred (not while exercising just while driving) then today as I lent over to pick things up then pain came again and felt like it was wrapping around my head and I thought I was going to faint.  Seconds later I was tripping and a bit dizzy.

Tonight I've seen strange white light flecks in front of me and little black squares, very odd.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm feeling worried about it all, I only had the letter a few months back saying that it was a good prognostic sign that there was no other signs of swelling the brain, I wonder if this is another episode of ON or if it's the start of MS for me?

Any help very gratefully received.

Hi Marmite,

Thanks for joining us.  ON does increase your risk of developing MS but the percentage of risk is higher if you have other MS findings along with the ON (i.e., lesions).

This post/link includes the study findings and Quix provided as simple interp too.

Hope this helps and that the ON stays isolated for you.  Feel free to ask anything.

See you around,

Good evening.  I've read your question a couple times tonight, waiting for an answer to come to me.  It just isn't working..........

Of course you know that ON is often the first symptom that someone has MS.  But that is not a 100% predictor.

Have you been in touch with your doctor since the pain came back?  I would call and see the doctor to be reevaluated.

feel better,
Lulu
