Arachnoid cyst/headache/neckache

I have had several car accidents over the years that have taken a toll on my neck.  But when I started to get that stiff feeling in my neck, I would take 2 Somas a day for about 3 days and it would get better, along with some heat.
I had a car accident in February where I rear-ended a car at about 40-45 mph.  (Yes it was MY fault--I wasn't paying attention.....no excuses!)
After the accident, my neck hurt worse than normal (to be expected) but then got back to pretty much "normal."  As time went by, my neck started to hurt alot and I have a horrible headache almost every day.  Starts in my neck, goes up straight to the top of my head.  Sometimes my neck hurts so bad I just want to scream.  I got an MRI a couple of weeks ago, and the report said something about an arachnoid cyst between my C-2 and C-3 vertebrae.  It's about 1-1/2 inches long??  I think.  I am going to a neurologist next week, but I'm scared to death.  I don't understand most of the report and I don't have it with me, but I'm really scared.  I know this isn't alot of information, but anyone know anything about this?  What they may do?

If the cyst is space occupying and causing pressure to your surrounding brain tissue then the neurosurgeon would want to go for an operation.
This might be the reason to call you and get all the reports to explain to you. If it is a corrrectable problem then the neurosurgeon will take time explaining to you and i think you should face it bravely whatever he comes up with.
If you can correct this nagging problem and live healthy then it would be fine for you.
Take care!

I posted this awhile back.  The neurosurgeon saw my new mri and I tried to call to make an appointment with him to discuss it,, and the secretary said that he took my films to a conference!  I told her that I just wanted an appointment to talk to him about the mri.  She said that she thought he wanted to call me personally on the phone.  I'm so worried about this now.  Why would a doctor bring mri films to a conference?  Because there is something wrong and he can't figure it out??
