Seizures

What type of seizure does a 15 month old child/female have when only shoulders are shrugged involuntarily at different times.  The child wakes up in the night for no reason then after a little while goes back to sleep.  My grand-daughter has had mri/mrs and they were normal.  EEG normal.  A 24 hour EEG is now planned because the pediatrician refused to give the MMR shot until the seizure type is identified.  I think he made a wonderful decision and shows empathy for my grand-daughter along with all of her family who love her dearly.  Any possible information or web sites we would be open for any information.

Hi,

Tics can be recurrent. Sometimes magnesium deficiency can also cause tics in children. You can discuss this with her pediatrician.
However it will be worthwhile to get a 24 hr EEG done to rule out seizures completely.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.  Tics is what they had told us.  The shrugs went away for a while but, are back now.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is difficult to tell if they are really seizures or just tics. Tics are sudden involuntary movements which go away on their own after sometime.
This could also be tourette’s syndrome.

Hope this helps!
