MRI scan - What do results mean?

I was sent by an ENT consultant for an MRI scan to investigate my problem with imbalance in January 2008. I have since obtained a copy of the radiological report. which states the following:

"Scattered high signal white matter change is noted bilaterally in a mainly periventricular distribution especially in the parietal and temporal lobe/regions."

Comment: "High signal white matter change in the supra tentorial location in thought probably vascular in origin reflecting some deep white matter isachaemic change."

What does this mean or indicate?

Hi, last year I had an MRI scan. I was having it as the Dr was looking to see if I had an AVM on the brain, I get a lot of headaches and have an AVM on my right forearm. When I went to see the Dr he told me my results, he said there is a malformation there but it isnt an AVM. He then pointed to the temporal lobes and said they are low. I should of asked him what that meant, but I never ask questions when Im there, I just say to myself I should of asked this and I should of asked that. I looked on the internet and could only find things about epilepsy. Could you please tell me what it could possibly be.

Thanks.
Sarah

What does isachemic mean?
What is deep white matter change?

The vascular part I understand concerns the circulation of the blood. Is that right? If insufficient blood reaches the inner ear, would this affect one's balance?

The symptoms I have do not include falls and slurred speech. Could the MRI scan results indicate a migraine related condition? Although I rarely have headaches my eyes seem to affected and I have a difficulty concentrating and muzzy head at times.

I am a vegetarian, consume very low, negliable levels of salt, have reduced sugary foods to a low level. Exercise is hard when I feel unbalanced so I've been restricted to walking preferably in the least confined spaces. I'm okay when seated but moving around causes me trouble, so I make myself walk.

I now have an appointment to a neurologist but don't know what to expect.

Thank you for your attention.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
The MRI  findings suggest an Ischemic vascular disease . The symptoms are balance and coordination problems , a history of falls, dizziness , slurred speech .Please take lots of fruits , vegetables , fiber , carbohydrates and reduce the intake  of salt , sugar and animal fat . Exercise plays an important role in improving the blood circulation . Please consult a neurologist for the management of the symptoms . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
