Strange symptoms that GP cannot help with

Hi,

About 8 weeks ago I began to feel a strange cold sensation across my forehead that I can only describe as feeling as though a wet cloth had been laid across it.
Ever since then I have experienced a very intense crawling tingling sensation across my forehead and temple with a painful prickling feeling across my crown which then subsides but is then replaced with an extremely intense cold feeling across my forehead that feels similar to brain freeze.

I have visited my GP four times and they have confirmed that it is not MS or a brain tumour but are unsure of what it could be so I have been prescribed 10mg of Amitriptyline as apparently this helps with over active nerves.

My question is:  Has anyone ever experienced anything like this and if so what was the diagnosis and the treatment given?

I am generally fit and well, exercise regularly and don't smoke or drink (alcohol or caffeine anymore) and have never experienced anything like this before so am concerned as to what it could be.

Any help/advice  would be very much appreciated

Many thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply Dr Mathur.

I'm still no closer to having an actual diagnosis from my GP but will discuss the pinched nerve possibility along with the rest of your thoughts during my next appointment.
I have also recently been undergoing acupuncture and when my acupuncturist put her hands on my forehead and stretched, the sensations disappeared. She believes that it may be due to the muscles in my forehead overworking and not relaxing which may result in a build up of lactic acid resulting in the sensations. Could this be a possibility too? Many thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. The symptoms of skin crawling or water trickling sensation or strange cold sensation could be due to pinched nerves in the upper neck. These sensations are also seen in people who are very anxious and stressed out. Take up yoga, deep breathing exercise, walking etc to relieve stress. Music and aerobics are also good stress busters. Drink plenty of fluids and water (not caffeine), eat fresh fruits and vegetables and keep yourself busy throughout the day.
Very dry skin and disorders of thyroid gland all can precipitate a crawling sensation. The other possibility is Morgellons disease often mimics scabies. The disease is believed to be caused by weak immune systems in people that have contracted the tick-borne Lyme disease at some point in their life. It can also be a fungal infection like Tinea corporis. Please discuss these possibilities with your treating doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
