What do you know about Pheripheral Neuropathy cased by Quinolone antibiotics?

I was just diagnosed with Pheripheral Neuropathy which was caused by Quinolone antibiotics. My Neurologist recommended Steroid treatments, but could not promise any results. I have read that Steroids should not be taken by people whom have been floxed by Quinolones. Do you know anything about this?

The doctors do not want to admit or agree that floxing is caused by the Quinolones even though the prescription sheet from the pharmacy states so. I am absolutely sure that it is in my case. My symptoms started 8 years ago when I was improperly diagnosed with carpal tunnel. Since then I have been given Cipro and Levaquin for sinus infections.  Some of my symptoms are complete numbness of my arm that I was sleeping on,  twinges and twitching in my legs along with foot cramps. I had to stop playing racquetball and working out because my entire arm would go numb. I had been feeling much better the past year or so and then 5 months ago I was prescribed Avelox.  I stopped immediately, because by the second day I noticed I was having difficulty walking. My feet and legs had swelled up and now I have some days that I fear I may never walk again. I have bad tingling and twitches all day long and find it difficult to do every day things. If the doctors had knowledge or belief of the Quinolone toxification, I would not be in this sad shape.  Five months ago, I was a 55 year old that felt like I was 45 because I take good care of my body and exercised regularly. I understand that the toxins build up each time and now it has gone too far. I would like to hear from anyone with similar symptoms so we can chat.

Check ****.com...dr. Jay Cohen has become a defacto expert on this problem.  I have all the problems you described and have been suffering for 5 years not.

There are several articles Dr. C wrote on quinolones that may be interesting and a paper at fqhelp.com (80pages) summarizes all the know issues and possible supplements for helping...interesting report...a must read for all floxed people.

Looking for the report website right now.

Hi. I was prescribed cipro the end of May 2009 and I took it for 5 days. I had pain, ringing in the ears, brain fog, and the worst was panic attacks which I never had in my life. I was also very healthy at 52. I'm much better than I was but not 100 percent but I know I will be. There is a website for people injured by quinolones with alot information on supplements, nutrition and more and others to talk to. I had pain early into the reaction and I was taking alot of different supplements. The pain never really got that bad and went away completly within a couple of months but within the past few weeks I started having pain in my legs and a week after the pain started I must have torn a ligament when I was cleaning the floor and couldn't walk for 4 days at all and not whithout pain for 2 weeks. I remembered I had used Transdermal Magnesium and started using it again and also I used Biosil from Natrol early on. Yesterday I bought some Jarrowsil which is the same but it is bound to boron. Today I haven't had any pain at all. I'm not sure though if biosil caused anxity so I only took half of the dose of the jarrowsil. I hope this helps you. Leslie
