can i make it stop

My physician told me I suffer from vertigo, and that the only thing I could do for it, was to take motion sickness pills.  I have not done that, because they say they cause drowsiness. This has been going on for over a year now.  Will it end, and how do I stop it?  It is getting worse, almost to the point where I cant drive.  I notice it gets worse when I am tired, but when am I not tired.  Can someone please point me in the direction of what to do to make it go away?
