intermittent humming/vibration sensation in left groin/thigh

I'm a 44 year old male who, for the past week, has experienced a humming/vibration sensation in my left thigh/groin area, akin to the vibrate mode on a cell phone.  The sensation is intermittent.  It is not painful, but is irritating.  No motor weakness noted.

I have had exactly the same symptoms recently, a 56-year old male.

I've been working out in a gym for about a year.  I took last week off due to back strain, started back this week and noticed the vibration/hum after my first visit, with sensation occuring about every two minutes, lasting for about 10-15 secs.  I assumed I had somehow strained a muscle and this was some sort of electro-chemical-muscular interaction in the junction between my left leg and groin.  Another thought was that maybe I had a small hernia and the intermittent vibration was fluids backing up then gushing past or through the "pinched" section of intestine where it was bulging through the torn abdominal wall.

No idea what it really is, but reassuring to read your post and realize it is not just my imagination.  Looks like one for the legendary Dr. House and company.

I have had the same sensation lately, 49 year old male, I have been told to watch for blood clots, but I don't know if that is what this is I also have reason to suspect a hernia.  It is very annoying.

I'm a 45 year old male and I have had the same symptom on the outside of my right thigh. it feels like my cell phone on vibrate mode and it has been increasing for several months now. it's one-third of the way down my thigh between my hip and knee and is not really painful. It does it any time of the day or night. Any info would be appreciated.

I don't know about blood clots, but I know this as a symptom of a nerve problem. I have it from neurosarcoidosis, but it could be uncomplicated such as a relayed pain from a spinal disc pinching the nerve, or locally pinching just from the way you are sitting.

Excuse my imagination, but it also feels like when you have loud music on, and the kitchen sieve is vibrating ;-).  Or sometimes it's a slight sensation as if someone is tapping a rythm on your skin.

I felt it just now, but I'd suggest a vitamin B complex such as Neurobion.

Just mind, if you want to have it checked out, don't use Neurobion beforehand, because it masks the symptoms (which means - Neurobion helps!).

I have this same issue, I have tried a few things over the last few days and it is definitely reducing in intensity and frequency.  I have added a daily vitamin, increased my exercise and taken a gastrolyte every day in case my electrolytes are off balance.

Thank God I'm not losing my mind.  Just started having these sensations couple of days ago.  Since these postings has anyone discovered what this is?

I've got the same problem.  At first it was just once in a while and like others thought it was my cell phone on vibrate.  Today though my thigh has vibrated all day long in about 45 sec. intervals.  Doesn't neccessarily hurt but very irratating.

I am having the same symptom which I have felt before (thinking my cell phone was vibrating) but tonight it is happening continuously in my right upper thigh towards the back in the middle of my leg.  It's very strange.  I am a 37 year old female.  Has anyone gotten a diagnosis of this issue.  Could it be sciatica?

I'm a 33 year old female and I just started having this problem today!  I've had a weird 6-month history of various health-related issues including low potassium and low magnesium.  I've had quite a lot of nerve problems, muscle twitching, numbness, etc. that I thought was caused by my low magnesium.  But my nerve problems have started back up and now this has started today, I thought I was going crazy.  I work near an airport and kept thinking maybe there was just some very big planes taking off, but now I'm home and it started back up and won't stop.

I too feel this. It is in my right thigh and seems to be related to my heart pumping. I think it is blood flowing through my vein that runs down my thigh. I have been taking supplements recently and have changed my diet (the "Mood Cure") so this could be related to that. Possibly a sign of High Blood Pressure, though? Also my eyelid twitches pretty regularly.

I too have had this weird vibrating of the thigh. It went on for a few months all the time, then just stopped. it will still happen now, two years later, but very rarely. I asked on other sites, others experienced the same thing but no real answers.

I decided to work out by doing push ups every few often for the past week.  Need I mind you, I haven't worked out in almost 3 years.  I'm a 32 year old stressed male with two children.  I barely see the day of light and I sit on my computer with my feet up.  Recently about a couple of days ago, my right shoulder began to hurt to the point where I can't lift it.  Then I realized there's a vibrating feeling coming from my left leg.  I too suffer from anxiety but refuse to take medications because this is something I wish to fight with m brain.

Whatever you guys do, please don't make it out to be something big.  I've learned that being on the Internet and reading this type of stuff tends make you panic especially if you have anxiety.

I woke up this morning and my shoulder was feeling great.  I picked up my little 2 year old and boy is she heavy; my shoulder began to get worse.  I also noticed by not moving my right arm, the blood began to pump even harder because there was no movement.

Just remember, there are reasons why things like this happen to you.

Stress
exercise
anxiety
gerd + anxiety

So many things that could cause this.  I looked up Vibrating thigh on the Internet and everyone talked about heart attack, block clogs and so on.  Not one person was diagnosed for it.  That tells you it's not life threatning.  Always and I mean always discuss this with your phsycian.  Whatever you do, don't ask an advice nurse.  They always lead things to heart attacks.  If you told an advice nurse that your daughter fell and broke her arm; she'd ask if you had heart disease in your family and that if YOU were breathing normally.  Advice nurses make the situation worse so ignore them.

Remember, your mind plays tricks on you.  It will always be a bad thing but you have to fight your mind and make it good.  Relax and relieve tension.  Go for a walk and keep those muscles moving.  Maybe your body wants movement.  If your eye twitches, it's because something is happening to you and you're nervous.

Everything will be OK; talk to your doctor.

I know this post is old but I hope one day someone does a search and find what I wrote.  Never trust what the Internet says when it leads to something bad.  It's their anxiety and fear talking.

God Bless!

I hope my story helps understand why you might have these strange vibrations in your body.    I have cervical disc herniations MRI is not pretty.   Neurosurgeon was ridiculous, rude and gave no options besides surgery,   I had a mountain biking acc 3 yrs ago and remained active with no pain meds but a lot of weird tightness throughout my body.   I finally tried a PT that does PNF I think it stands for proreceptive neuromuscular facilitation,  yes it means that the physical therapist does manual manipulation, releases the muscles that are constantly tight that should not be and they re train the unused muscle (that become very weak from inj) to get the nerve to send a signal for it to work again.    I am an RN and this type of therapy saved my life!!!    I did received 3 facet joint injection (less risky that epidural) and I am on my 5th month of straight PT with a reduction in repetitive stress inj  I.E.  work/standing/straining/bad posture,  just so my body and get released and strengthen it back up.   And yes it takes work/regular exercise that the PT tells you to do!!!  This is a must, if you do not do your part it will not work fully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Think about it, if you have structural problems/tightness/muscle dysfunction from injury how is just doing exercises that some PT's give goin to work???????    I am absolutely blown away that they actually do no understand that you must get the body back to a normal status without all that crazy tightness and nerve tension/tissue bound up before you can re train the muscles to work in a normal environment.     If you go to a PT that just gives you exercise without evaluating weird tightness/tingling DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!    Find a therapist who does PNF or some other neuromuscular work.    I had to have my right side of pelvis put back in place and what a difference.    But now two days later I have mild left leg groin intermittent vibration sensations.    I will talk to my PT this week but I am sure it is due to the release of tension to the nerves.   I had constant tension to them and that decreases blood flow to them, you have to remember that nerve's are not very forgiving and take time to heal.    It has been a long road and a heart breaking one for someone who is very very physically active/sports etc.   but I have had to be an advocate for my own care, no thanks to a neck specialist/ortho doc/and a  neurosurgeon who is very narrow minded.    As is my father-in-law (retired gen. surgeon) who only believe in pills or surgery!     UGH!!!    I thank God that I found these type of physical therapist who treat based on thier own eval, they are able to practice/assess and set a treatment plan without a doctor's order.   the order is mainly for ins purposes!!!!!!   Where you aware of that!     Anyway  Good luck to all with this problem.   My prayers are with you.    Denise

I also have been having the vibration in my legs and chest. I've been in PT  for the last 2 and 1/2 months. They use the robotic arm to relax the muscles. After the arm works on the vibration goes  away for awhile.
I've always had a bad back and i pushed it over the edge when I rreally started working out and running..bad move. for the first month it was all I could to do to walk and stand for any length of time. Its much better now but very frustrating not being able to do what I did before.
Can I ask how long you have been recovering?  Its been 4 months for me. Im learning patience..Sometimes you wonder if you have some wierd disease.  The mri came back with a minor herniation..  They believe its from years of stress on the body and the muscles are exhausted.  Being an Rn does that sound right?  Thanks for sharing your story.

I have just started having these sensations since the Chile earthquake, (groin vibrations) and didn't know if MAYBE some of these might just be a reflection of spacial surroundings? I know some people are sensitive to some things whether they know it or not.
I know the eyelid twitch is a stress factor. I have had this on a few occasions and looked at what was going on in my life and when I found the factor ( usually money issues, of course ) I was able to get a hold on it mentally and that went away.

If you have low magnesium and potassium you should also be taking Calcium and Vit d supplements. I was having similar neurologic symptoms and my magnesium was low. I started taking magnesium and it helped a little but still had weird symptoms. It wasn't until I got a balance of all of these that my symptoms totally disappeared. They were working me up for MS and all other kinds of disorders and now with 5000 units of Vit D, 500 mg of magnesium and 1200 mg of Calcium a day I am symptom free. Try it it is amazing. They all need each other to work properly. good luck

I had the vibration in my groin starting yesterday for the first time and it persisted for 36 hours. I have read other peoples possible solutions here and conclude that I am 39 and have a very good level of fitness (jogging, swimming etc.) and state of health, good diet and have been taking multi vitamins for the last 5 years. I have no stress at home or in work and I am not suffering from any injury or other symptoms. The vibration continues when standing, sitting and laying down and seems to pulse rather than be a continuous sensation. I would be more inclined to think that the source of the pulsing vibration was hydraulic and was associated with circulation. I know that over the last fours days my alchohol intake has increased due to a few parties and my water intake has fallen. My urine has been dark yellow for three days I decided to increase my water intake to hydrate better and see if it had an effect. I drank 1.5 litres of water over 10 minutes and after 45 minutes and now passing clear urine the sensation started to reduce and then finally stop. It's been 5 hours and it has still not come back. ?????? hope this might help.

I'm a 47 year old male who exercises moderately and consistently and takes supplements regularly including Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D3. The vibration started recently and is directly under where my cell phone rests, on the outside of my left thigh.  It only started recently and coincides with the purchase of a new smart phone.  It's a rhythmic pulsating sensation with something like a 1 second vibration followed by 3-4 seconds of calm, then repeats.  After I take me phone out of my pocket the vibrations become less frequent, but still have the same rhythm. Eventually they stop.

Just a few moments ago I tried pressing the area while it was vibrating and the vibrations don't seem to be coming from muscle - possibly deeper, like down to the bone.  I like the idea above of it being vascular, but the rhythm I'm feeling doesn't coicide with heart beat or increased stress or exertion.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the rhythm I mention coincides with a phone's broadcast pattern: wifi or 3G cellure patterns.

Female 52,
the 3-5 sec vibration started for me a few months ago and indeed mimmics (sp?) the sensation of the cell phone and in my case blackberry curve smart phone which coincidentally I got a few months ago. The onset was my right groin area right about where my phone used to sit in my pocket. Since then the sensation have spread to other areas of my body, (no hands and feet) but left side of my chest, ribs, inner upper left and right thigh right where in connects, both face cheeks (not the eye) and the outer area of my privates (hopefully not TMI haha). The buzz/tingle (particularly in feet and legs) sensation people are talking about I think is different than the feels like a cell phone description which seems to start in the groin area. Mine has progressed in frequency and locations over the last few months, not necessarily in intensity. I found the correlation idea to the smart phones interesting. We could be on to something here. I might pass this on to a news trouble shooter to see what they can dig up. Love my high tech stuff, so as long as it's not gonna kill me probably won't get rid of it. LOL
