Metal work moved in old spiral fracture repair? Or something else?

I had a spiral fracture to the finger next to my pinky on my right hand 4 years ago. It was due to 2 previously unknown about cysts. Finger fixed with plate and screws and packed with bone graft from the wrist.
Recently I've noticed a very definitive lump at the bottom where the finger meets my palm. It's also gone very tender and hurts when pressed.
Is this likely to be a loose screw? Slipped metal work? Or anything different?
I've got an appointment in a couple of weeks as guess I'll need referring for an x-ray. But not sure if I should try and get seen any sooner?
