Hip replacement

Sept. 2012 I had a hip replacement surgery due to a fall & breaking my hip & since I had no insurance I had to pay out of pkt the cost of all of it...I did not do PT because I was at the end of my rope money wise...I am still on a cane because I wobble & limp I also experience thigh pain at times....I am over weight & I suspect that is my issue but I am still asking is it ok to still being on a cane and having some discomfort at times otherwise I am going to have to wait awhile before I can see a dr, for it...I will be eligible for medicare soon...I have always had insurance but we ended up being one of those that fell through the cracks.....

I am14 months post op and regularly use a cane.  I even had to go back to crutches in the fall due to severe pain.  I had test done and nothing turned up.  Now told to "wait and see". Do you have any other option to explore.  I had bone scan, medal blood test, X-rays, mri, etc.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
No, it is not OK to be on cane so long after hip replacement. In all probability, being overweight and not going for physiotherapy has added to the problem. Since it is nearly one and half years since the replacement, you will need a re-evaluation of the hip condition and then physiotherapy may be started to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Thigh pain is probably due to pressure on the muscles. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
