Kienbock's Disease / Proximal-Row Carpectomy

42 year old, Active Male

I was diagnosed with Keinbock Disease in 1998 and underwent Radial Shortening in 2000 for the condition.

The surgery went very well and I have maintained an active life style with minimum pain management since.

In June of 2010 started to experience more pain and swelling and injured by wrist in October 2010 before seeking explanation for prior pain & swelling.

Cat scan in November has shown by lunate bone has fractured and flatten from the Keinbock and my scaphoid bone is now also fractured either from new injury or from Keinbock.

Doctor recommended surgery options are:
1) Proximal-Row Carpectomy
2) Partial Fusion

Has anyone had either and if so how was recovery, life style change afterwards, long term care and anything else you could share.

Thanks & God Bless….
Dave

I recently had a proximal row carpectomy. Before I had this process I had tried to find information from a patient's point of view on the Internet and was very unsuccessful. So I decided to begin a blog on this process so as to help other people who may need this procedure.

I will be logging my healing process every 2 to 3 days. I am actually using a software called Dragon and the VXI microphone to dictate this email since my right hand is still in a cast.

I thought you might be interested in having a look at my blog and/or putting a link to it on your website so that patients can add their comments and complete a poll on the success of this procedure.

The link is as follows: http://proximalrowcarpectomy.com/
