I was in a car accident. I had an open compound fracture. When it occurred they closed up the ankle without fusion. I was in extreme pain and could hardly put weight on the ankle. One night, I got up to go to the bathroom and it collapsed. The next day I was getting put on the schedule for fusion. I had to sign a paper stating I was aware the surgery would NOT provide any pain relief however would provide stability. I would be able to walk. So, I agreed.
The procedure they did was called "Ankle arthrodesis, subtalar arthrodesis with intramedullary nail, right foot and ankle."
Why did you have the ankle fused? Degenerative joint disease or fractures?
It's crazy I went to the zoo today with my little girl and now I can't walk the pain is so bad... even after taking my meds...
