Pain after hip replacement

Hi,
I had a hip replacement in Feb 2008. It's been great up until 3 weeks ago when I experienced sudden pain from my grion to my knee after walking up about 400 steps (I was on holiday in Laos & was walking up a mountain to a temple). The pain resolved after 24 hours and I was able to go terkking through the jungle for a couple of days. After I returned home the pain returned a couple of times but is now more frequent & severe. I've had an x-ray which has shown nothings wrong. So whats causing the pain???
as you can gather I am very physically active, I cycle, walk & ride horses & have a physically demanding job.

Pray for Obamacare my friend..there's no reason for you to live in pain because you can't afford ins. & surgery! Insurance companies have had a stranglehold on this country, and have the politicians in their pocket$. Good Luck!

I am 27, male,  and am having a total right hip replacement tomorrow.  I am so worried.  About a year and a half ago, i was in a bad car accident.  Lucky to be alive!  But i am in too much pain, they say once i have this operation, i should be good the rest of my life needing maybe only one revision...  They're going to insert a big head so i have more movement and better chance of no dislocation.  The arthritis and joint just got so bad, but my doctor actually does pro bono work. ( if you want the number)  They work out of Pittsburgh, PA.  I hope all works out.  But he told me if i want a better life to live and to be more pain free, then this was the route to go.  He said i shouldnt wait too long, because i could do more damage to my joint, etc.  So i was schedule like 10 days after he saw me.  Its best to get an X-ray, CT Scan and MRI all together, the CT Scan showed the most, i believe.  Best wishes....  You can email me at ***@**** if you'd like to discuss our progress or if you want any info...Take care...

My surgeon's got me down for a bone scan. Walking is very painful on occaisions but I seem to be able cycle without too much pain. It seems to be wieght bearing that gives the pain.

I'm so sorry to hear of your pain, it must be excruciating.
I'm in Australia and over here we have free health care. You could have a hip replacement done by the best surgeons in the country for nothing. There is a waiting list for non-essential surgery but you usually don't have to wait too long.
I here Barrack Obama is trying to get a similar system over there. I hope he does for your sake.
cheers,

I am 35 husband and father of 4 children.  I was involved in a car crash at 18.  The car crash changed my life forever.  Previously I had been slated for a career in law enforcement.  I suffered a broken hip socket and from that point on I could not fulfill my dream.  A ... [More] t that time I was given lots of "hardware" to hold my hip together.  Fast foreward 16years.  My leg constantly loses circulation if I sit for more than 10 minutes.  I have severe arthiritis throughout my right side.  I walk with a major limp. When I walk around in public people constantly ask me "Are you ok? you look like you are in a lot of pain".  I have trie all the otc meds and really cant afford prescriptions nor do I want to get hooked on any.  I live in pain all day.  I cannot work because I need to constantly walk around on some days and others I cannot walk at all.  I have spoken to many Ortho Surgeons and they all say the same thing.  "You need a hip replacement and without insurance it's not gonna happen" I say all this in hopes that someone reads this and is able to help me find an Ortho Surgeon that does Pro Bono surgery and who can help me lead a normal life with my children and wife.  Thank you

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

You can also go for an MRI to rule out any ligament, muscle or tendon involvement.

You can continue walking, cycling but restrict from horse riding till you are symptomfree.

Take care!
