Possible complications of foot surgery

I need surgery on my left foot - I have bunions, hammertoes and other problems which are making it increasingly difficult for me to walk comfortably.  I am concerned about surgery, though. I have had cellulitus twice in the past (from surgeries)  - both times required hospitalization - one required a pic (sp?) line and IV antibiotics at home for 6 weeks.  Also, I had a bronchoscopy 2 years ago and my pulmonologist told me I have pseudomonas. Further complications - I have rheumatoid arthritis and SLE.  My question is - is it relatively safe for me to have the surgery on my foot? Obviously I don't want to put my life on the line, but I also don't want to end up in a wheelchair because I can't walk.  How much of a concern are these other problems?  I would appreciate your opinion.

Hi,
How are you feeling?
A bunion is an enlargement of the medial eminence of the 1st metatarsal with soft tissue and bursal swelling.
If you are currently up with an infection and if it is not responding to antibiotics then it is not the right time to do any surgery.
If you are talking about an infection some years back or some time back, then that should not be a constraint for current surgery.
Goals of surgery should include pain relief, correction of the deformity, restoration of normal biomechanics, and maintenance of adequate joint motion.
What were your symptoms and since when are you been diagnosed with this problem?
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
