Rib Removal?

I have a loose rib, and it's been causing me sooo much pain for over a year now. I am so fusterated, I just want to get it taken out! Has anybody had a rib removed? Was it severely painful? Does it feel different? How long is the recovery time? THANKS!

So happy to hear your cancer free. I had 2 ribs removed t4 and t5,  I had Osteo -sarcoma, a 3 cm osteo stalk growing inward off my t4 rib, fortunately is didn't puncture or affect my lung. Under my right breast around to my side/back.. I hate it,  It is the most painful , awful thing , from the minute i wake up , till the minute i fall asleep. and when i'm sleeping it hurts.  Driving even riding in a car is painful. My life has forever changed. Medication eases it the pain. (lol)  Who am i kidding NO it DOESN'T.   When you have 10 inches of nerve and muscles cut it causes a lot of damage.  I know how you feel, and I feel for you.  I'm cancer free, as of yet, 4 years 3 months 6 days. I wish i had some advice to offer,  :(

Hello! I just read the information about VEPTR and foud out that it is for use in the treatment only in skeletally immature patients, in other words - for childs. Can it be useful for adult and most important question - can it reduce pain?
Could you also give your advice how its possible to reduce pain in the ribs and the abdominal muscles areas? I am talking about the situation with removal of 1 rib and abdominal muscles after sarcoma lung.
Thank you in advance for your help.

My heart is with you I lost one rib and 1/2 kidney 11 years ago and have not been able to find any help. I would love to hear what the doctors said. I like you want someone to replace the rib. I live in chronic pain and pray they come up with a fix for me.

I know this is an old post, but my wife had a section of 5 ribs removed in 2010.  I would be interested in chatting with you about the pain and recovery.  after 5 years, she still is in immense pain with no immediate end in sight.  Thank you.

its amazing to know so much people live in the absence of ribs i honestly thought i was the only one. in 2002 i was diagnosed with tb spine, i was operated for it and my fifth rib was removed.in 2005 i started feeling what i referred to as a heart cramp, over the years this cramp has increased dramatically from the point where the heart is located to being around my fifth rib both left and right sides, but more severe on my left where the rib was removed. this area is numb. 2015 marks the 10 year i still dont have answers. this spasmodic cramp is very painful
