Torn Labrum Question

I posted about a week ago and did not get any responses and thought I would re-post to move it up.

I had an MRI that revealed a torn labrum. It is an old injury that has bothered me for years. lately it keeps me up at night and still bothers me when taking all the anti-inflammatory meds. the MRI states:

"there is marked thickening and hypertrophic changes of the posterior labrum with a moderate to moderately severe degree of glenoid dysplasia. There is secondary tearing of the posterior labrum. I suspect the labral tear is circumferential as there is clear involvement of the posterior superior labrum extending to the superior anterior labrum as well."

I am debating whether or not to get the surgery and I am looking for another opinion. Can this become worse if I do not get surgery? Will cortisone injection help this?

I had surgery 25yrs ago and to this day, still have 95% range of motion and 95% pain free compared to not even being able to lift a milk container and had severe instability.

The pain of the tear was awful .. the recovering time I agree with was about 6mos to begin doing things again and 1yr for full recovery.

To this day I can swim and pretty much do everything.

Thanks that is consistant with what my doctor said too. He said we could try cortisone and PT but does not think it will give me any real relief. He also said that torn Labrums do not always show show up on MRI's but when they do they are there.

It catches on something in there, and when it does usually when i am doing something simple like just reaching for something, when it catches though it is a pretty sharp pain. I know deep down that I will need to do this but I just hate to take the time off work. I am pretty busy right now. Having said that I am not sure how much I can physically do with the arm right now.

My doctor is suspecting I have a labral tear, he says that cortizone injections would be useless because the injury is deeper than the injection would be. I am hoping the surgery to repair it won't be worse then the pain I've already had. The recovery stated above is about the same as what my doctor said. Do you have pain in your collar bone?

SLAP repair surgery is not that bad. I went through it a  year ago.  It is athroscropic so it is a day surgery.  You can't really do much for about 3months.  Then you have to go through physical therapy for a couple of months.  you pretty much can do everyday stuff after 6 mos.  Won't feel really good til maybe a yr later.  If you have that much pain you really should just repair it.
